In this ever changing world of technology many people have turned to online dating. I, for one, do not feel that online dating is the way to go. People should not participate in online dating because of safety concerns, it can become costly, and also can be very time consuming. The first reason I believe that online dating is not a good choice is safety. If you really think about it, you never really know who you are actually talking to on these sites. Not everyone who is on these sites are honest people. Even though a profile may say one thing, it does not nesseccarily mean that it is the truth. There are several types of people who frequent these sites and could be the person you are actually talking to. Many men and women who are unhappy in their marriage frequent these sites because there is less chance of their spouse finding out. Another type of person that studies have shown often frequent dating sites are con artists. They are known to “sweet talk” you out of lots of money by making you fall for them. Another issue that I have read about online dating is cost. Although some sites say they are “free”, often times there is a limited amount of things you can do for free. In order to be able to really connect with another person you would have to pay a membership fee. Most fees can range from $14.95 to $49.95 a month. If you are one of the many people who who are signed up on more than one site it can become costly. The final reason that I have for online dating not being a good idea is it can become time consuming. Some people get so wrapped up in searching for “the one” that they tend to neglect other important aspects of their life. For example, one of the things that they may neglect is spending time with their friends and family. They may even start to miss work more often or neglect normal everyday things such as chores and errands.

Ted Sawchuck is the author of the essay on online dating. At the University of Maryland, the dating process starts like this: get someone's name. Then look him or her up on Facebook. Use that information to decide how to continue from there. After using Facebook to check out someone and have a decent idea of whether she is a friend or possible romantic interest. The dating process works well online initially. Real connections are only formed by spending quality time together. Time spent online communicating with someone can build connections that lead to a relationship or strengthen a current one. Combine that freedom with the very personal qualities of online relationships and the large amount of time most people spend online and you have…

I agree with the author’s stance on this issue. The internet is a resource that this generation is lucky enough to have instant access to. It should be uses as a tool and a resource especially when it comes to meeting people and dating. It should not be a person’s only option and it should not be considered only as a last resort. A mix of both online relationships and relationships in real life are essential in this day and age. There are so many unique…

Technology has implemented itself in almost every aspect of our daily lives, and the new big thing we have currently is the rave of online dating. Computers are day in day out coming out with new dating websites, and people are buying into the whole idea of it being a last resort and only option left. Of course it is so much easier to sit on a computer and explain detailed information about yourself and come up with matches or results, but where was this decades ago when there was no such thing as the internet. Before computers this means that men and women actually had to go out in public and communicate back and forth to find their life partners.…

The first dating rule I would have for my kids is no online dating. There is no way to know if somebody is real. There are lots of people pretending to be other people online. If one person found another person online and they made plans to meet in real life, one of the people might be pretending to be another person. That could put the other person in a lot of danger. If somebody lived far away from the person they were dating, that couple would not be able to be with each other. An online relationship just does not have the same effect as one in real life.…

Dating is a common behavior that is seen all over the world. Most people have experience dating. Dating is a common theme seen today and back in the past. Most people start dating around the age of 13 years old. I believe North American dating relationships are heading towards more of online interaction such as online dating or meeting someone online. In the book The Family by Philip N. Cohen he states “the combination of romantic ideals and utilitarian purposes can make for some elaborate and extended searches for the perfect partner” (Cohen 237). With online dating it is much easier to find a person that you are looking for and it gives way to an easier access to dating. What I mean by dating relationships heading more towards online is that…

Dating today is a minefield of political correctness, social and cultural expectations, and a supposed freedom to date who you want regardless of age, race, gender or religion. Mixed with this is a society where single people are often working more hours than they've ever worked in the past, and are not able to get out and meet as many potential dates as they'd like.…
