The Rise of The Walt Disney Company
The Walt Disney Company started its business in 1920, beginning as a cartoon studio. The company produced comics and cartoons and Mickey and Minnie made their first appearances. In the 1930’s, Disney produced their first full length animated film, along with the color cartoons. During the 1940’s, Walt Disney issued its first stocks and formed the Walt Disney Music Company. In the 1950’s, Disney Land opened in California and the infamous Mickey Mouse Club aired on televisions around the nation. During the 1970’s, the Walt Disney World Resort opened in Florida, The Magic Kingdom. The first global theme parks opened in Tokyo and France in the 1980’s, along with the Epcot Center in Florida and the Disney Channel began broadcasting. The Disney Channels expanded in the 1990’s and began broadcasting in the UK. Also during this time, the Disney Company joined the Dow Jones Industrial Average. Over the years, the company has produced many films, animations, and cartoons. They have opened numerous theme parks, acquired multiple networks and opened Disney stores across the globe.
“The Walt Disney Co. is a leading media conglomerate with key operations in theme parks, television, filmed entertainment and merchandise licensing” (S&P 500). Throughout the decades, the company has expanded into a large global business and is known for the quality entertainment it provides to individuals of all ages. According to the net advantage data, The Walt Disney Company has had a steady increase in revenues since 2009. Although, there was a slight drop from 2008, the company has continued to progress with $12,309 million in revenues in the first quarter of 2014 and $12,466 million in revenues in the third quarter of 2014. There was a 6.5% increase in FY13 and an expected 8.1% increase in revenues in FY 14. (S&P 500). Because of the reputation of the Walt Disney Company and the continued proven success, it would be beneficial to invest in the
