The Purpose Of My Personal Code Of Ethics
The Purpose:

As an accountant, my code of ethics encompasses integrity, courage, respect, honesty, and excellence. In order to preserve a high level of integrity in my personal and work life, it is imperative to develop and follow a personal code of ethics. This code of ethics will be used to inspire me to continue to grow as a person. When facing difficult decisions in which the right answer appears ambiguous, I will be able to refer to this code of ethics to facilitate my decision. Ever since I was a little girl, I always wanted people think of me and only have positive memories. I always strive to leave people better than I found them. To do so it is essential that I am constantly aware of my actions and how they affect others. As an accounting professional, my word and reputation are vital to my career. Therefore, I must be careful with my decisions and actions, as to remain above reproach. My personal code of ethics will serve as a daily reminder of my goals and how to achieve them.

Friends would say that I wear my heart on my sleeve, which is essential to part of who I am. Although, some would consider this a vice, I am working on making it a virtue. I do not wish to be cold and standoffish, but rather stay open and loving but not to trust as easily. William Shakespeare articulated, “Love all, trust a few, do wrong to none.” I do not wish to change, who I am, but to improve upon my myself and learn to strengthen my weaknesses. By using the following standards to help me improve on my weaknesses I can continue to mature to become the person that I have aspired to

For the accounting field, the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) maintains and enforces a code of professional conduct for public accountants. By adhering to the code, accounting professionals assume an obligation of "self-discipline above and beyond the requirements of laws and regulations" (AICPA, 2006, para. 8). Everyone may have strengths and weaknesses. Based on what I have learned from the Ethical Lens Inventory I found my strengths are fortitude and compassion. I demonstrate courage and steadiness in the face of obstacle. Because I value equality, when I am at my best, I demonstrate compassion for others. My weaknesses are confusion and entitlement. So I have to develop the practice of mindfulness and reflection, at some point I will confront the loss of my center, especially if I lose the role with which I have become identified. I pay attention; my temptation will be to believe that I entitled to special privileges because I have not…

Top managers directed by ethical values develop effective leadership skills as well (Duggar, 2011). In this case, employees respect, trust and believe in them. Thus, it will lead to accountable financial statements that the corporation can use to make better decisions for the sake of the business in the distant future. These financial statements can be beneficial to other professional and to some practicing accountants as well.…
