The Pros And Cons Of Shopping At Large Supermarkets Or Smaller Shops
The Pros and Cons of shopping at large supermarkets or smaller shops

Nowadays we have wide variety of opportunities to choose – go to cinema or theatre, (to) buy green sweater or blue, travel by the train or by the buss. We have also an opportunity to choose where we will go to shop – at large supermarket or smaller shop? However, both of them have advantages and disadvantages, so which is better?
There are some advantages of shopping at large supermarkets. Firstly, supermarkets have wide variety of products. You can choose whatever you want starting brand and ending color of good. Talking about smaller shops, variety of products there are really limited. The other advantage of large supermarkets is that they are open longer hours than small shops. If you need something late evening you could be almost sure, that supermarket will be open.
On the other hand, shopping at large supermarkets has disadvantages as well. For one thing, supermarkets are often located out of town so it isn’t comfortable, if you need something quickly. In this case, small shop is better to choose. The other disadvantage is that supermarkets are always full of people. It is hard to find parking place and to stand in long queue to pay. This disadvantage is become advantage of small shops. There isn’t queue or many people, so shopping become better and easier.
All things considered, I think, that both of these shop ways are acceptable. Everything belongs from yours purpose and of course, from yours goods list.

There are indications that these changes are affecting the way people shop, as over time the number of people using the independent shops can been seen to reduce, whereas those going into the superstores can be seen to increase. Stock level and choice available in the independent stores are dropping, as owners reduce non essential items to maintain a liveable profit margin, consequently fewer people are using the independent shops; resulting in an ever increasing circle of change and inequality, for both store owners and shoppers.…

We shall start by looking at the size of supermarkets; Tesco, Asda, Sainsbury’s and Morrisons “The big four” have more than 3900 stores around the UK (Bevan, cited in Allen, 2009, p. 74). This gives them a lot of market power and as they compete with each other for dominance so they impact on local communities. The competition between the supermarkets is felt too by the local independent store, since 2000 Tesco and Sainsbury’s have opened up to 1500 convenience stores on the high street making it difficult for the small independent retailer to make a decent living. As these small independent stores close down, at a rate of 2000 a year (Federation of Small Businesses, cited in Allen, 2009, p.74), this restricts the choice of where to shop.
