The Principle Behind Crrof
The principle behind CRAFT is that to change someone else’s behaviour, one must first change oneself. This sometimes poses a challenge to the CSOs as they do not deem themselves as the one that needs to change. Rather, they justify that it is the IPs that should be the ones changing. They may then refuse to further participate in the treatment plan. CRAFT helps CSOs to understand the rationale behind this principle and assist CSOs to indirectly motivate and encourage IPs to make the changes.

As CRAFT is non-confrontational and there is not deception in getting IPs to change or go for treatment, the success rate is about three times more effective compared to conventional interventions (Meyers & Smith, 2004).
