The Paint Bike-Personal Narrative
As I walked around the strait bodied rebuilt 396 ‘71 Nova, I shielded my eyes to the gleam of its mustard gold paint and chrome polish of the engine block. I never thought this would be the day I would get to drive it and learn stick. When I looked up Joe and my dad they noticed me eyeing down the car and Joe said, “Ready to take it for a spin?” I nodded and he threw me the keys. As we got in I was so anxious but yet so nervous knowing that I’ve never drove a stick before. However my past knowledge of being good on a manual four-wheeler and dirt bike came along to help. I threw the key in the ignition and with a foot down on the clutch brought the beast to life. With a quick click of my seat belt and a rev of the engine I was ready to take on my challenge of the day. I slowly backed the car out of the driveway and threw it over in first. Knowing that you need to be subtle when working a manual I listened to my dad walk me through it and gave it more and more gas. Then to my surprise the gears started to catch, too bad the tires did not. I had given the 396 more gas than what I was used to and squealed the tires on the hot summer pavement. I flew back in my …show more content…
Tho the car didn't seem to like that idea with me driving and kicked the car around while the clutch burnt a little. My dad had then ran me through what my mistakes where. As I was starting to get the hang of this whole deal I saw a red gleaming octogone in the distance on a upward slope. My heart started to beat faster and faster as I approached it and came to a stop. I looked both ways twice and took in what Joe and my dad told me. I slowly let off the clutch, gave it the perfect amount of gas and surprising got over the slope with no burnt tires following me. This is one day where I learned a lifelong lesson and will never forget to carry it with me in a nerve racking situation like this

If the car had no drivetrain it could not drive, and the owner would be forced to push the car everywhere. A car’s drivetrain contains the engine, transmission, and driveshaft. The name Boss 302 was given by Ford because they used a 302 ci engine in the Mustang. The engine placed in the Boss 302 was given a little bit extra. Ford gave the engine a four valve carburetor to help the engine produce 290 horsepower and 290 foot pounds of torque. The transmission is another key component in the drivetrain. The transmission’s main purpose is to shift the gears and keep the engine’s RPMs low. The car’s transmission is powered by the crankshaft of the engine. In 1970 the standard transmission for a Boss 302 was a 4-speed manual, but one could opt out and choose to have an automatic. The last major part of the drivetrain is the driveshaft. Without a driveshaft the car’s wheels would be unable to move. The driveshaft of the car is attached to and controlled by…

What’s the point if an automatic will do all of the thinking for you? Yes, an automatic transmission calculates the gear ratios and does the shifting for you but where’s the fun in that? That’s like playing a video game that shoots all of the targets for you. Driving a manual transmission is having full control over one of the world’s most powerful machines. Wouldn’t you want better gas economy without sacrificing horsepower? The beauty of a stick is that you don’t have to. You have full control over how much gas your giving your engine, and you get to decide how fast you want to accelerate at all times. Have you ever had to replace a transmission? I have, and let me tell you it’s…

My choice has got me bruised, fractured and, or almost clean breaks. My choice is bull riding. When I was 10 I started to ride. My first ride I hung on and got 2nd place. I thought it was so fun and easy that I would try it with no gear because I got beginner's luck. So the next rodeo was my keiki rodeo and I thought I could ride it.... 3 seconds went by and I got stepped on my hand and back. I had been checked out by the ambulance and ice packed. I thought just because it happened one time it wouldn't happen again. So I tried riding with only chaps so my legs would get as sore. So my next keiki rodeo I hung on for 6 second, which means I made my time, but just as I heard the buzzer ring with a loud "brapppphhh" I flopped over onto my back…

I used to love reading. In kinder and first, my nose was stuck in a Magic Tree House book. Third, fourth, and fifth grade I basically lived at Hogwarts (in my rightfully sorted house, of course, I am a proud Hufflepuff). And in middle school, I discovered THE tween series of my generation, Maximum Ride. Reading was exciting, and even though I had done it for years every time I picked up a book it felt so novel. I was your ordinary bookworm until seventh grade when the joint power of Ms. Green’s teaching and James Patterson’s writing broke my will to read.…

The task at hand was to find a medium sized internal combustion engine. With this engine we had to dismantle it recording all the steps taken to pull it down. After the engine had been taken apart, all the functions of the engine had to be observed and recorded. After observing and recording all the information, it was then required to make any minor repairs, adjustments or replacements. Once the repairs had been carried out, the engine had to be rebuilt back to its original or better then working condition.…

I was the only kid that year who got a bike and could not ride it. All of my hope and dreams of riding alongside my siblings and friends turned to dust. You see, out of all of my friends I was the only one who did not grasp the concept. Every day after school the kids would zoom by me on their bicycles and there I sat pushing my bike along. After months of pushing my bike, this one summer day I was pushing my bike down the street as I usually did, and my grandmother who unknowing to me had been watching me out of the front door came over to me and said today is the day that you stop pushing this bike. The lesson started my grandmother helped me on the bike and walked along side me holding me up so I could keep my balance, when she let go…

Up at my grandparents cabin in Mio, Michigan, it is usually pretty calm and relaxing… Unless me and my brother are riding the ATVs of course. We ride up and down the dirt driveway, through the trails leading to the neighbors houses, and around our small private pond. I really enjoy going fast on “my” ATV (it is really my grandpa's, but he doesn't use it and my brother has his own). One day while I was up at my cabin around 2012, I was taking a break from riding, my brother asked me if I wanted to ride as a passenger.…

Immediately, when I turned sixteen I woke up in the morning and saw a pair of shinny silver keys sitting on my desk. I jumped up with excitement and rushed out the door wearing only my boxers, with the keys dangling in my hand. There it was: my brand new GMC Envoy, dark hunter green with a wax that could blind you. I stared at the car with excitement and admiration; it was the most beautiful thing I have ever seen, and it was mine. I took it for a test drive around the block and opened it up on the highway only three blocks from my house. It had a V8 under the hood, black leather seats, a Bose sound system and enough horsepower to tow anything I desired. After my first test drive around the neighborhood, I picked up the phone and called my friends. I couldn't wait to show off my new car. With a quick thank you and a hug for my parents, I sprinted out the door. Hearing a faint be careful from my mom in the background, I slammed the front door and raced to my car.…

Mary Sadie is a thirteen years old, 2004, champagne colored, Honda Accord. The chipped champagne paint covering her body is fading but Mary Sadie is brighter than ever in my eyes. Over the past two years, my car and I have experienced road trips across the Causeway, to Baton Rouge, to the beach, through the broken roads of Lakeview, and countless trips to the French Quarter, which have truly strengthened our bond with each other. Just because a car is old and used, does not mean that it sucks, is one of the many valuable lessons that I have learned from owning my first car, along with many adventurous experiences that I will cherish for my entire life.…

It was a three sitter, so it was perfect for my two friends & I. We drove up and down hills, around the tall hay fields, and suddenly, before we knew it, we were upside down. All I could see was the enormous crack in the windshield. My heart dropped to my stomach, and I was scared for my life. I was in such tremendous amount of pain, that I realized my wrist was snapped. My friends did not know the way back to the house to grab a phone, and all we could do is scream for help. Thankfully, it wasn’t much longer before my parents pulled in to the drive way. They jumped on one of my old quads, and found us in a huge rut that I didn’t see driving through the field.…

But it wasn’t over yet. The cab ride was about an hour, give or take. Under normal circumstances it might take maybe two hours, but in Mexico, where there is no paved road, there is no speed limit. Instead, the driver, well-acquainted with the winding, deadly path, would drive his little stick-shift car at about 60 or 70 miles per hour. As many times as I have taken that trip, I am still to this day afraid that something could go terribly wrong and we will hurtle off the steep cliffs. Especially when there is another vehicle on the road, going the opposite way just as fast as we are. But the best part of all is that around turns, the car does not slow down one bit. On the contrary, sometimes it goes a little faster.…
