The Nighttime Trust Analysis
Trust is a key theme in The Curious Incident of the Dog in The Night-Time. Each of the main characters has issues of trust and honesty with each other. That's why I believe that trust plays a huge role in the novel regarding to Christopher's relationships. Christopher also learns that he can trust himself to achieve his goals. The three relationships that trust plays a vast role to Chris’ include his dad, Siobhan, and his mother. Even though trust plays differently in each of these relationships one big similarity is that they all care, love and want to make sure that nothing bad happens to Christopher.
As Christopher investigates the murder of Wellington the dog, he discovers two distressing truths about his father - that he lied to Christopher

At the start of the novel, Christopher thinks that she died, two years ago after going to hospital. Later he finds out that this is not true when Christopher discovers a number of letters she has sent to him during his investigation of who had killed Wellington. She has difficulty understanding Christopher's syndrome and easily becomes irritated with his behavior and unpredictable outbursts. For example she said “I got cross, because I don't like shopping at Christmas, either, and I told you to behave and I tried to pick you up and move you. But you shouted and you knocked those mixers off the shelf and there was a big crash”. (pg.106) Later she explains how embarrassed she was, and how sorry she was, and that she noticed that his father could handle him better than her. Through these letters you discover that Judy struggled to cope with Christopher and his unusual behaviours. Her relationship with Ed was under enormous tension and she felt that she wasn't as good at controlling Christopher as Ed was. For example after the Christmas shopping incident she said that “And I remember that night I just cried and cried and cried and your father was really nice about it at first and he made you supper and he put you to bed and he said these things happen and it would be OK. But I said I couldn't take it anymore and eventually he got cross and he told me I was being stupid and he said that I should put myself together and I hit him, which was …show more content…
An example of this is going to London on his own to live with his mother. When Ed realises the importance of telling the truth he has to work hard to rebuild his relationship with Christopher. Siobhan and his mother did the right thing by always being truthful to Christopher, which lead them to have a good relationship with Chris. Judy's honesty in her letters means that Christopher feels that he can find her and live with her. Despite lies being told in the novel Chris will learn to trust his father. The lack of honesty and truth can create problems and barriers between family members. Also being honest and truthful can help heal these problems. After evidence provided I believe that trust has an enormous role regarding to Christopher's

Family and friends are a major part of the play. For example, When Ricko asked his mate Jarred to try and cover up for him from the night of Tracey Warner’s death. He wanted Jarred to say that Ricko was with Jarred on the night of the incident, so that the police wouldn’t be after him. Jarred asked his father what he thought he should do. His father said, if you think it is worth getting into to trouble with the law to help your friend then go ahead and back Ricko up. This shows that you can’t always be backing your friends up 100% of the time, if it means you may get into trouble for doing so then it isn’t worth the…

The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Nighttime definitely depicts acts of betrayal. In this novel, the main character Christopher is betrayed by his father in two main ways that affects his life immensely. The first thing that Christopher’s father does is lie to him about killing Wellington the dog. The second thing that he does is lie to Christopher about the fact that his mother was actually alive. Without the acts of betrayal in the novel, it would be dry and boring.…

Callwood’s essay supports my views on integrity and trust. When she says, “For the long haul, they want a truth speaker” I completely agree with this point because I have come across an untruthful person; I had a best friend in grade seven and this friendship only lasted for about two years because she would tell me lies and would never tell me the truth until I found out. I wanted our relationship to consist of full honesty but she continued to do the opposite. Ever since that experience, I have been fully committed to integrity and trust in all of my relationships with others. However, there could be many people in this world who do not rely on integrity as a factor of maintaining a long and healthy relationship.…

Chris ' father tells Chris that his mother died, but the truth was she left them to live with Mr. Shears in London. Chris was not always honest with his father either, telling him a white lie when he asks Chris what he did all day. " 'I talked to Mrs. Alexander 's dog outside the shop. And it stroked him and he sniffed my trousers, ' which was another white lie. This quote proves that even Chris who thought he was incapable of lying, still was not completely honest with him. This is the overall difference between the parents of Christopher. Furthermore there is much more differences. One very critical difference between the two is the fact that one of them is an action taker. Honesty is always a good thing to have in handy in this situation. If Tim tells the truth to his father, he would give away Sam. Although Tim really loves and obeys his father, he would never hurt Sam, even he really truly loves his father. “The truth is at father didn’t really want to take me,” (91). Even if it hurts to tell the truth, he always does the right thing. Tim never could tell a lie because he could never hide it from nobody.
