I chose “Settling New England” as my topic. The website I had chosen has many intriguing facts. While reading it, it just made me want to read more and more. It also had very descriptive pictures that one could visualize what it was like back in the day will reading. This site is related to chapter 2 out of the book that we read because it talks about the Mayflower and Plymouth Colony, Thanksgiving, Puritan life, and how New England expanded.…
The Chesapeake region consists of Maryland and Virginia, and the New England colonies consists of Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, and Connecticut. Even though they were both settled around the same time period, 1607 to 1700, the two regions differ greatly. From the time period of their original settlement in 1607, the Chesapeake region developed differently from the New England colonies due to their differences in geography, motives for settlement and the socioeconomic backgrounds of their original settlers.…

A small group of Separatists, or Pilgrims, first went to Holland and then settled the “Plymouth Plantation.” There these new settlers tried to replicate the villages and communities of England. New England and Middle Colonies developed differently because the Anglican Church was persecuting Protestants and Catholics. Therefore these groups settled in New England and not Virginia/Middle Colonies. This impacted political development because the Middle Colonies were for profit, and as a result they developed different politically.…
In the 1600s The New England colonies started developing having their own kinds of social, political, and economic views. They had great influence on the way they rand things from the puritans. Such as their economic base continued to be agriculture. Though their view on having and wanting material wealth changed over time. Not only did they change how religion was connected to politics they kept the small town democracy which laid the base for the future. Additionally the importance of education remained but the ways natives were view changed…
In the colonial United States up to seventeen hundred, most of the settlers inhabiting the land happened to be of English origin. Although, they came from the same whereabouts, the two poles of the colonies, north and south, developed two distinct societies. For example, in the New England area the settlers developed an egalitarian, unified, and organized atmosphere, while in the Chesapeake region residents created an aristocratic, unloyal, and scattered environment. But, if they are of the same origin, how did they develop such divergent societies? This difference was a result of opposite immigration and settlement patterns, and motives.…
England in the 1620s was filled with tension between the Puritans and King James I and his son Charles I. Their primary goal for their country was to revive Roman Catholicism and rid of any religions that would not conform; so, they mainly targeted Puritans. This intolerance motivated the Puritans to pursue their economic interests (which later turned into religious interests) and establish a place for themselves in the New England colonies in 1630. What they originally intended was to create a colony in which they could practice their religion freely. They did not think of accepting others. Eventually, their society became just as strict as English society: their political, social, and economic advancements were structured and very much parochial.…
New England had a stronger economy than the Southern colonies even though it was mostly based off of lumber, fishing, and manufacturing. But since they had big port cities, like Boston and New York, they traded a lot with other places and made a lot more money that way compared to the Southern colonies…
The New England and Chesapeake colonies were both settled by English colonists. Most colonists moving from Great Britain to New England were families searching for religious salvation, rather than mostly the single men that traveled to the Chesapeake area in search of wealth. The immigrants of the Chesapeake area were greeted with a climate and soil that were perfect for cultivating tobacco, cotton, indigo, and rice. Those settling in New England could not rely on farming to support themselves because of the rocky soil in the north. While the majority of the Chesapeake colonists were not as cohesive due to the great distance from farms to these towns, New England had close-knit church events, meetings, and schools. Although, the New England and Chesapeake colonies were both settled by people at English origin, by 1700 the regions had evolved into two distinct societies because of motives, environment, and towns/communities.…

The British North American colonies or the 13 original colonies, had freedom but not like you would think. The extent to which religious freedom existed in the British North American colonies prior to 1700’s, was different from region to region. The colonies in New England, Middle, and south region treated freedoms differently. In the New England colonies extent to religious freedoms was not great, Middle Colonies had good toleration to religion, and The Southern Colonies had a bit of tolerance to religious freedoms.…

The English settlement in America occurring around the early 1600’s was the result of the Age of Exploration in addition, the freedom from religious oppression. For the Separatists later known as the Pilgrims, America was a place for dreams and new beginnings given that they were persecuted for their religious beliefs in England. Some fled to the Netherlands finding religious freedom and no work. The Pilgrims however, settled in America. Moreover, the Puritans came to America to practice their religion freely. They strictly enforced their religious regulations in result of the little tolerance they themselves obtained from different beliefs. Due to this lack of tolerance people began forming new colonies. England had three colonial groups identified as the New England, Middle and Southern colonies. Three admirable colonies that may be pointed out from each group are Massachusetts from the New England colonies, Pennsylvania from the Middle and Maryland the Southern colonies.…
