ABSTRACT

Hydrographic survey has been going through a dramatic development in recent years not only in seabed mapping but also in oil platform installation. Hydrographic survey experienced a major development and modernization. Therefore, the procedure and the scope of the hydrographic survey has change from those days. This lead the hydrographic surveyor job to be more challenging and the man power must be updated with current procedure. The objectives of this study are to describe the involvement of the hydrographic surveyor in oil jacket installation and to explore the latest surveying technologies that being used for the installation purpose. The methodology for the research is based on the objective and purpose of study. The main purpose of study is to determine a brief idea and information about the hydrographic survey that involve in offshore oil jacket installation. For this research the information was gathered through interviews with two hydrographic surveyors who have vast experiences working in platform installation. The results of this research will be used as references and guidelines for those who are interested in working as a hydrographic surveyor in oil platform installation. As a conclusion, accuracy of the field data must be precise enough to carry out platform installation and a hydrographic surveyor must make sure that the accuracy of the observation always be accurate because the data that obtained will be used for other purposes. Lastly, a few recommendations for the future studies is made to enhance the quality of this study as well as to reveal the role of the hydrographic surveyor in platform installation in detail.

    This laboratory experiment has as objective to introduce to the rheological properties of drilling fluid, including plastic viscosity, apparent viscosity, Gel strength(GS), exponent of ffow behaviour of power fluid (n), consistency index of power law fluid(k) and yield point (YP). It is also an objective of this experiment to measure the rheological properties using an equipment called FANN viscometer and to control the mud properties. To achieve these objectives, devices such as mud balance, FANN viscometer, mud mixer and electronic mass scale are used. Four groups developed four different muds: mud 1 (water + bentonite), mud 2 (water+ bentonite + barite), mud 3(water+ bentonite + barite + polymer), mud 4 (water + bentonite + barite + polymer + CaCl2) in order to compare the rheological properties of each. It was observed that the density of mud 2 increased due to the adding of barite and there was an increase in the density of the muds, because of the adding of bentonite, polymer and CaCl2. All the mud behave as a Bingham plastic fluid. To conclude, with was observed that the components used to develop a mud define the rheological properties of the mud. Therefore, It is important to measure the ideal components to mix in order to get the best cost / benefit ratio for the drilling of a well.…
