I think that The Cosby Show had a very practical portrayal of how a family should operate. Although it lacked a direct Christian perspective, it was still a clean, positive influence on our society. It was humorous without finding is necessary to be vulgar or obscene like so many shows on television today. In addition to its clean proper humor, I’d say it was a step forward for African Americans in that it was the depiction of college educated upper class African American parents, raising their children to ultimately attend college as well. Unlike many previously aired African American programs that painted a picture of these families being from the ghetto or always struggling to get ahead, this show was an example of how hard work and living by the expectations of society, that anyone could be successful despite their obstacles.…

From there he was able to create an essay titled This is How We Lost to the White Man. And through the narrative of Bill Cosby (before his being accused for sexual assault), we begin to understand more about Coates thought process. “The Pound Cake speech,” one of the most known speeches of Cosby (even having its own WiKi page) where Cosby blames the condition of black life on black people themselves. Most television shows nowadays are all about sex, alcohol, and the dramas that occur because of them. If one ever wants an example of the way television history is created they only have to look at "The Seinfeld Show". It first aired in 1989 and nobody expected it to be noticed, much less worshipped for nine television years. The first showing was a rejected pilot that the network put in as a burn up slot just to use the time during summer rerun season. It was called the Seinfeld Chronicles at the time and it was really a work in progress according to those who were there(Sauter, 2002). The characters were underdeveloped, the plot was all over the place and the network never expected positive feed back from the burn out slot. Kramer was named Kessler, and Elaine was not even invented yet. And as often happens in television history, there was no rhyme or reason for it to happen, but it did. The network had stumbled across a gold mine of success (Sauter, 2002).…
