Life is full of common and expected but yet, very frightening situations, events, or circumstances such as natural disasters, wild animal attacks, been aggravated by violent individuals, strange and chronicle illness or situations that threaten the safety or people’s life. There are also other events that rarely occur in people’s lives but are even more frightening because there are mysterious and dark beings involved. Humans know very little about these entities and the factors that generate such events. Rare events such s these have been studied and investigated for hundreds of years and passed on from generation to generation but regardless of the vast research on the topics, its events, and the many publications of them through the ages, there is still very little known about them making the theme and its occurrences more mysterious and horrifying than the common and expected dangerous situations normally happen in people’s lives. Events that have involved the subject of the spiritual realm and the demons and evil spirits in it, always has placed several feelings of horror and fear in the hearts and souls of many people over centuries. Another concept that has been around for a similar period of time is the subject of extraterrestrial beings which is also a topic that is considered to be mysterious and unexplainable. The mystery and unexplainable facts of these concepts and its events have been the inspiration and motive for many books, stories, paintings and nowadays, they even have been used as topics for recreational purposes such as in movies. Films based on real life events have always capture people’s attention because they feel compel to find out what really happened to the people involved. The demonic possession concept gave the movie the exorcist the main element to be one if not the best horror film ever made. Another key factor is that this film was based on the real case of the exorcism of Roland Doe in 1949 which added to the movie’s success as people felt more compel to find out what happened. Another factor that helped made this a remarkable horror film was how the concept of the movie and the case of Roland Doe were treated with dignity and respect by the production team. They tried to keep as real as possible all components in the film including the visual effects and the story which by keeping them as faithful as possible to the concept and Roland’s case it gave the film the necessary balance to keep people horrified and at the edge of their seats up to today. The film affected many audiences so strongly that at many theaters, paramedics were called to treat people who fainted and others who went into hysterics and for a movie to cause such reactions, it places the exorcist as the scariest horror film(listverse.com). The concept of extraterrestrial beings has also been used to produce remarkable films. This notion has been in many people’s lives since the dawn of civilizations. The idea that extraterrestrial beings have been visiting our planet since ancient times has become a popular trend and folklore since the middle of the 19th century. One of the first published books on the matter was “the chariots of the Gods” written by Erich von Däniken which became the first book to provided widespread exposure to this idea and ever since many people all over the world have drawn attention to certain details in ancient hieroglyphics, ancient texts, cave paintings, artistic paintings, ancient architecture and structures which indicate that this concept is real. The film is based on the book called the Travis Experience which narrates the alien abduction of Travis Walton in 1975. Travis claims to have been abducted by extraterrestrials beings described as humanoid appurtenance with huge black eyes that seem to penetrate as they stared at him. Travis also claims he had several experiments and examination procedures done to him and that he could do very little to prevent it as he could not move his body because of been in some type hypnosis or paralysis. Five men were eye witness to the moment when Travis was hit by a ray of light coming from the flying disc; all men were given polygraph examinations and they all past meaning they were telling the truth which meant aliens are real and left people with uncertainty and questions of what is it they want, what are they capable of, or why do they visit our planet and what are their plans. Another factor that makes this movie scary is that the alien abduction topic seems to be real as there are millions of alleged cases such as the first well-documented case of Barney and Betty Hill abduction. Betty began to nightmares of her and Barney been taken in to a strange space craft and had examinations perform on them. Their emotional trauma got so intense that they had to seek the help of Dr. Benjamin Simon who documented their hypnosis sessions and in which several repressed memories of the abduction were recollected. Even do there are no solid evidence of these so called abductions there have been many studies done by professionals and their evaluations indicate that victims go through the same traumatic experiences and emotional distress. Fire in the sky portraits one of many mysterious and horrifying events and the idea of knowing that it is a very possible event that can happened to anyone, at any time, give this film the element to make this film one of the scariest movies. Human kind has tried to learn and discern mysterious events throughout history and have come across situations that they just can’t explain nor understand and are incapable of controlling such as demonic possessions or extraterrestrial abductions. Both concepts have been around for centuries but little evidence and knowledge has been acquired keeping their elements and secrets hidden. Real life events such as demonic possessions or an alien abductions where faithfully and respectably portrayed in the films the exorcist and Fire in the Sky, providing these two movies key elements to produce two of the scariest movies of all time.
