The History And Uses Of Chromium, By Nicholas Louis Vauquelin
"Chromium was discovered by the French chemist Nicholas Louis Vauquelin at Paris in1798. He was intrigued by a bright red mineral that had been discovered in a Siberian gold mine in 1766 and was referred to as Siberian red lead. It is now known as crocoite and is a form of lead chromate. Vauquelin analysed it and confirmed that it was a lead mineral. Then he dissolved it in acid, precipitated the lead, filtered this off, and focused his attention on the remaining liquor from which he succeeded in isolating chromium. Intrigued by the range of colours that it could produce in solution, he named it chromium from the Greek word chroma meaning colour. He then discovered that the green colouration of emeralds was also due to chromium."

Knight (2015) said "When hides are soaked in a solution of chromium, this helps to cross-link their strands of collagen proteins into a mesh, making the leather more elastic and water-resistant". Chromium is a very rigid metal with a very firm chemical composition and is widely used in stainless steel (alloy steel) manufacture. When Chromium is supplemented to steel, it becomes harder, shinier, and corrosion resistance. Chromium is one of the hardest metals with an incredibly high melting point. However, the melting temperature of Chromium depends on its purity. The average melting temperature goes from 1513 Cº to 1920 Cº, with the boiling point of 2199 Cº. Chromium's density is less than iron’s density and it is equal to 7.19 g/ml. Chromium is great heat and electricity conductor. I wanted to know more about this element, so I read a few interesting articles about it. I have paraphrased some of those articles in this essay. In my opinion Chromium is very beautiful and unique element. With Chromium life of some metals, furniture, textiles, leather can be extended. Chromium can enhance the look of many everyday things that we use. Just imagine that stainless steel would not be as stainless if Chromium was not added to it.
