Both stories were made up by the Grimm’s brothers when they wrote their collection of fairy tales in 1812. They were created for the enjoyment of children and families alike.
After the Grimm Brothers created these fairy tales, many people began to flock around the books until they were considered a very popular read. It created a belief system of magic and wonder, yet didn’t shy away from the darkness in the world. Soon, people decided to take these stories and fluff them out for the rest of the world’s children to see. They were made into animation by different artists and many are still popular to this day. The hero’s journey is a literary device created by Joseph Campbell as a way to recognize the hero’s main journey throughout many different genres. It is the typical journey of a hero thrown out into an unknown world with a single objective. The Hero’s Journey maps out the direction in which a typical story is headed. It helps the reader understand the story at whatever pace they need to read it in.
Most of the folklore found in different cultures are about princes or princesses going on great journeys to get to their objective. They are the hero of their own story and battle through different obstacles. It isn’t until a Prince tricks her into letting him climb her hair when she is thrown into a new world of wonder, even if she stays where she is. She learns to fear the witch whom she thought to be her mother. The ordeal would be when the witch cuts off Rapunzel’s beautiful hair and takes her to the desert to live out the rest of her day, then throws the prince out of the tower, blinding him for the rest of his days. The prince travels across the land, blindly looking for his lost love until he comes across her in the desert. She spills tears on his damaged eyes, giving him his strength back. They go to the prince’s castle where they live out their days as the queen and king of the
