After reading the story twice I was able to understand how the first sentence of the story encompasses the story as a whole. The first sentence refers to how the narrator perceives adults as people who are constantly changing things with complete disregard to kids and their feelings. In my opinion, the author’s intent is to share the narrator’s strong opinion towards adults and towards her own personal feelings about herself and her beliefs. The narrator has a very strong spirit about her which becomes apparent very quickly, and is present throughout the entire story. The story begins with Hazel (the narrator) explaining one of the characters has decided to change his name back to his original name because he wants to get married.…

When I started it, I thought he was going to tell me about his childhood, but then progressed onto the life of teens and what they go through. I liked this speech because I felt like so many teens could relate to it and it got me hooked to the speach itself and the spokesperson. In the end, he was trying to get a simple message to the certain people who thinks their life is bad. What I got from it, Koyczan was telling us to stop reflecting on the past and the bad things happening to you now, and look at the beautiful side to life and live it to the fullest. Koyczan was telling us that no matter what people say, we are amazing and beautiful just the way we are.…

It is meant to tell how small things could bring back memories of bigger events and that even though you regret doing things in your own time, when it comes to letting your own children do things, it has to become their own choice. They must find things out on their own. It is appeasable to audiences of all ages and aspects but only the middle-aged audiences would really have a first-hand account to relate to it. I believe that the theme is to, not be judge on the way your appearance is, and to show respect for everyone you see. A most serious part, gentlemen. This boy was brought here to deliver a speech which he made at his graduation yesterday.” (page 233). He started and his speech as he was trying to be an upright speaker he was getting yelled at to be louder, with his mouth full of blood from his previous fight, he was still being given orders. As he read they still went about with their conversations and the drinking and smoking. Until he said “Social Responsibility” (page 234), got the ear of the powerful white men. They made him say it over and over either for entertainment to watch him listen like an obedient dog or to watch him struggle against what he really wanted to do. After the protagonist was told to repeatedly told to say it again he finally said what he really meant and what he really wanted to say “social equality” (page 234), which made the whole room go quiet. At that point they asked him very sternly to repeat himself and he then instead of saying what he wanted to and meant to say he said what he felt was more appropriate for the situation; Social responsibility. This symbol stands the strongest because it was his first amendment to be able to say what he felt, but he knew that their would be very severe consequences to face if he did such a thing. Very recently, Nathan (my 12 year old son) and I were in our back yard throwing Frisbee. He has gotten into Frisbee golf (disc golf) and was showing me some of the tosses he had learned. We were having a blast. During this fun time, Nathan walked over to a small sink-hole in the ground he had discovered a while back. The hole is about 5 inches in diameter and about 18 inches deep. Peering into the bottom of the hole, Nathan exclaimed, "The frog is still living in here!" He went on to share that he had seen the frog in the hole about a week earlier. He had concluded that this is where the frog had chosen to live.…

For instance one of the little girls “Momma said don’t climb over the fence when you play, it isn’t safe.” (Woodson -). Being different from others can be hard especially when you’re a child not really knowing what is going on in the world. These two girls were different because of their race and that they were in different socail classes, but that never stopped them from talking to each other. “My mamma says I shouldn’t go on the other side...My mama says the same thing. But she never said nothing about sitting on it.” (Woodson -). Both their moms never said anything when the two girls would sit on the fence and just look around and talk. Deceny plays a big part in life; and these two girls never made a big fuss about it because life to them was simple, becasue all they wanted to do is have fun and be a kid. However in today’s society, things like this don’t really happen anymore because kids these days aren’t outside playing in the mud, but instead sitting inside playing on iphones, ipods, ipads, and playing video games all day long in their free time. I remember when I was younger that I was always outside playing in the mud, running through the woods bare foot, riding dirt bikes, four wheelers, and just having fun being a kid. Honeslty thats all these two little girls cared about, was having…
