The Government Inspector
Recently, I had the pleasure of seeing Nikolai Gogol’s 19th century comedic farce, The Government Inspector. The thrilling play I attended on Thursday November 5, 2015 was adapted by Jeffrey Hatcher, directed by Matt Foyer, and produced by Jeanette D.Farr at the Glendale College Auditorium Mainstage Theatre. This funny contemporary production illuminated the absurdity and vanity of human behavior. The 90-minute comedic face, performed in the grand Proscenium theatre, had a clever and unexpected series of plot turns, which ultimately lead to a flashy performance at the show’s conclusion. The plot of The Government Inspector articulates on a case of mistaken identity, when distressed, the civilians of a small local town mistake poverty-stricken …show more content…
Each actor is worth noting, but standouts include Dion Aghajani as Bobchinsky and Michael Skaf as Dobchinsky. Director Matt Foyer makes sure to keep the audience intrigued and alert by keeping the cast of college students/staff on their feet for a nonstop 90 minutes. The actors, playing larger-than-life versions of themselves, are impressively convincing in their roles. The ambitious and hot-headed Greg Stone provides plenty of laughs as he becomes slowly disillusioned with the dysfunctional state of rehearsals. Eryn-Jean Norvill is captivating as a ditzy film starlet out to prove her theatrical acting chops – replete with frequent references to The Lion King. Mitchell Butel shines as an egomaniac rehearsing his Oscar acceptance speech in his dressing-room mirror while fantasizing about his sexual conquests at the awards after-party. Zahra Newman’s striking singing voice is also masterfully showcased in the play's …show more content…
Holding a reflection up to the audience, amidst the laughter there are also poignant reflections on love and loss. The Government Inspector performed at Glendale College Auditorium Mainstage Theatre is unlike any other comedic farce performed in Los Angeles. If you want to escape from the hustle and bustle of Los Angeles, and watch a play with good humor, I guarantee you will chuckle a few times at the melodramatic production. It features a top-flight ensemble cast working at the height of their comic powers, all playing exaggerated and highly colored versions of themselves, and they’re a delight to

J.B. Priestley wrote ‘An Inspector calls’ at the height of his powers as a playwright. The plays purpose it to deliver a pro-socialist message to the audience. This performance is Marcus’s seventh production with SAVHS Theater. Marcus is delighted by his role of Edward Ferrars and enjoys all of its acting challenges, which is only a portion of his feelings, for he is terribly awkward with words. Marcus would like to shout-out Stuart for his “accent lessons,” Jodi for not letting him go onstage naked, Kristin for developing him as an actor, Madelyn for all of the intentional and unintentional awkward situations he put her through, and Jade, who requested a shout-out. Marcus hopes you enjoy this production, and that everyone in the audience falls in love with his character.…

A short play is usually filled with a theatrical energy of diverse anthologies. The time allotted may be only ten or fifteen minutes, so it must be able to capture and engage the audience with some dramatic tension, exciting action, or witty humor. Just as in a short story, a great deal of the explanation and background is left for the reader or viewer to discover on their own. Because all the details are not explicitly stated, each viewer interprets the action in their own way and each experience is unique from someone else viewing the same play. Conflict is the main aspect that drives any work of literature, and plays usually consist of some form of conflict. In “Playwriting 101: The Rooftop Lesson,” Rich Orloff explores these common elements of plays and creates an original by “gathering all clichés into one story and satirizing them” (Orloff as cited by Meyer, 2009, p. 1352).…

In this essay I am going to write about how J.B.Priestely used dramatic irony and entrances and exits to create dramatic tension. I will tell you what dramatic irony is and how it is used in the story 'An Inspector Calls'. In addition how Priestley uses entrances and exits to create tension as well. The few enjoyable moments all had one thing in common, humor. The college students incorporated their 21st century comedy into the ancient drama, in a way through which the audience members could relate. From dancing to modern music in their archaic garb to chanting “orgy” at the audience, the actors did not miss a comedic beat. The amusement the actors brought lightened the mood without interrupting the play’s tragic tone.…

The Postal Inspection Service is just one of several federal agencies that target fraud. Each year postal inspectors arrest more than 1,000 suspects for fraud conducted via the mail. 26 percent of people 60 and older account for all telemarketing fraud victims, in addition, 60 percent of people in that age group are victims of prize or sweepstakes fraud. Although these numbers seem high to most, the actual figures are probably even higher. Prize or sweepstakes fraud victims often never report it to authorities. It can be too embarrassing, even humiliating, to admit you’ve swindled.…
