The General Service Administration (GSA)
The General Service Administration (GSA) is an agency found in the United States government. Its main purpose is to “help manage and support the basic functioning of federal agencies.” (1). It supports and helps other agencies when it comes to fixing their budget, implementing policies that cut cost, or even providing everyday items that are needed. The GSA watches over other agencies to make sure that it is function correctly and efficiently. One unique characteristic of this agency is that it is an independent agency, which means that even though it is part of the executive branch the president has no power over it. The only guidelines it has are federal laws. The GSA was created in 1949, Former president Herbert Hoover told President Harry S. Truman to create an “office of the general services”. Ever since then, it has projects would that are sponsored by the federal government. The GSA is divided into two different departments; the Public Buildings Service (PBS) and the Federal Acquisition Service (FAS). The Administrator of General Services is the major person in charge of this agency, they are in control of what the agency does. The main clients of the GSA is the federal government. The main purpose of the GSA is to help and assist the federal government when it comes to cutting cost and helping budgets of organization through policies or just assisting them when they ever need help with a public project, the GSA is there to assist. In recent times, the GSA just restored an old asylum in order for it to be the new Coast Guard headquarters. (4) This $646-million project was started to bring all the Homeland Security agencies all under one roof. This 1.2 million square foot building is using the latest in technology, in order to make it more energy efficient and environmentally

    A civil service system can be defined as the administrative part of a government or the employees of a government excluding military personnel. They are merit based jobs and prospective employees are required to take exams to be considered for employment.
