When Eddie meets his third person, Ruby, he was told the story of how his father died. He was told that his father died saving Mickey. Mickey was one of Eddie’s father’s close friends. When Eddie’s father arrived home and saw Mickey with his wife, his intention was to hurt him, but when Mickey was found in the ocean unconscious with foam coming out of his mouth, Eddie’s father rescued him. After Eddie heard this he said, “Everything he thought he’d know about his father, he didn’t seem to know anymore” (Albom 136). Eddie’s whole life he viewed his father as an abusive drunk, but hearing how he rescued Mickey, his attitude towards him changed. Eddie no longer resented his father. He now had respect for him for his heroic actions. After hearing Eddie’s father's story, Eddie’s relationship had a positive change. He was able to find closure with his father. Considering he was Eddie’s father, Eddie always wanted to see the best in him. Albom developed that although Eddie’s father was mean to Eddie throughout his life, even the smallest amount of hope that his father was an acceptable person completely changed how Eddie viewed him. This shows how relationships are all connected because Eddie’s short interaction with Ruby changed his relationship with his…

For instance the setting is in a random town in Georgia, which should come as no surprise since the author herself was born in Savannah, Georgia. This setting sets up a scenic place the family drives through on their way to Florida passing by old plantations and country hillsides. As the story progresses the setting also changes from passing plantations, to Red Sammy’s barbecue restaurant, and eventually to the ditch in the middle of a road surrounded by a forest. Additionally this setting offers a third person limited omniscient point of view seen in horror stories and does not solely focus through the eyes of one person.…
In the case of the story "The Baby Party," Edith is too concern on having her child, Ede, being superior. This is shown by her intended late arrival of the baby party and her inappropriate laughter as Ede laughs after hurting the little boy. This theme of identity also applies to her husband, John Andros. The author mentions this at the beginning of the story, "when John Andros feels old, he finds solace in the thought of life continuing through his child." The couple focuses too much on their need to have Ede being superior. This is the main cause of their big argument with the Markey's family, which also result a pointless fight between John Andros and Joe Markey.…
