The First time I…..
Am I a good writer? What am I as a writer; average, great or horrible? As a child in elementary school I felt as if I was a great writer. I thought that I was so great that I desired to become a famous author. However, in middle school this dream shattered when I wrote this amazing paper (at least I thought it was amazing) and received a big fat F! That very day I felt as if my desire to become a famous writer was balled up and thrown out of the window.
Writing was my passion it was what I thought about all day and now it was but a mere dream. I had to find something else to focus on, I had to find something else to desire. I started spending more and more time in the school library. I discovered that I loved reading just as much as writing. I learned to read just as early as I learned to walk and use the toilet. My mother was a teacher so she would come home every afternoon and read to my sister and I. I found reading to be relaxing and intriguing. Reading was like having your own personal movie play out in your head as you read the pages of the book. I enjoyed it so much I completely stop watching television and even playing outside. I can remember my favorite series of books, which was the Junnie B. Jones series I must have read those books ten or twenty times each. During the reminder of elementary school I became better and better at reading. My teachers were amazed I was one of the best readers in my class. After reading books you would have to take an AR test on the plot and characters of the book and at the end of the school year the student with the highest average would receive a prize. I never lost!
As I got older and older my love for reading continued to grow. As I approached middle school I was becoming better and better at reading out loud and illustrating the story with great vocals and emotions. In the sixth grade I was reading at a high school level and enjoying every

Finding one book that intrigued Stephanie enough was all it took to make her an everyday reader. The same goes to me. When in my earlier years I hated reading. There were only two things I hated to do. Those two things were reading, and doing what someone told me to do. Hating a combination of the both you could see how the disposition with reading would subsist. It wasn’t until the summer going into middle school that I changed my ideals on the subject.…

In “On Becoming a Writer,” the author, Russell Baker, expressed his interest in writing as a way of thinking about himself and forming an identity. “The only thing that truly interested me was writing, “he states. “It was the only thing for which I seemed to have the smallest talent…” Even though he used to dislike English classes in high school, in his third year, the chance of being a writer knocked on his door. When Mr. Fleagle, the English professor, with an out of date look and behavior, took over the class, he brought on an opportunity to Russell to realize his talent and stay with open eyes for the future.…

Overall, I am not a completely horrible writer. I’m good at getting my point across, and just flat out writing once I get going. However, there is definitely things that I can improve on, as there almost always is in life. My grammar skills and sentence wordiness can greatly be improved, this will come with writing more and looking over my work. I didn’t really write papers until this class, so these issues will also get better as I become a more experienced…

    Reading Autobiography

My earliest memory of reading was when I was in kindergarten and I would pretend to play school and I would sit my dolls around me while I read them a story by looking at the pictures because I was unable to read the words. My mom would also take me to the library and check out books and join the story time that was offered for children. I remember having a very large bookcase at home that was filled with my own books that I would get to choose from each night for my mom to read bedtime stories to me. I loved books that rhymed because I felt like I was able to read when my mom would read the sentence and I could finish it because I knew the rhyming word. As I learned to read, my mom always had books that I could read and I remember that she would always let me order books from the school book order. I had a wide range of genres and also had a subscription to zoo books magazine.…

After reading the article “The Composing Processes of Unskilled College Writers” by Sondra Perl I have been forced to understand how writers write. The writing process is a situation that is approached from various angles. In the writing process techniques and sequences from person to person are often diverse, but it is one of the ways one may be expressed. The goal of Perl study was to “see how unskilled writers write, can their writing process be analyzed in a systematic, replicable manner, and what does an increased understanding of their process suggest about nature of composing in general and the manner in which writing is taught in schools.” (191) With Perl performing this observation and collecting several amounts of data I decided to perform an observation on my writing by paying close attention to how I write. With analyzing I realized that my writing process have a very sequential pattern. I also have noticed that many acts of critical planning and editing are carried out through many of my writings and it has had a negative effect on the majority of my writing masterpieces. Subsequent to carefully critiquing my writing I have realized that all individuals have a different way they write.…

I learned to read and write at a young age. There are a lot of people in my family who are educators. My grandparents who both taught for the Beaumont school district would read with me and teach me to write whenever I would visit them, which was often. Throughout early elementary school I remember reading and writing coming relatively really easy to me due to my upbringing. I even read books outside of school that were not homework, and enjoyed them so much that I once got in trouble for reading in class while I was supposed to be doing a different assignment. One of the books that I read outside of school, and was interested in, was the harry potter series. Its story line and intense descriptions really fascinated me. I continued reading those through middle school, even when I was supposed to be reading a different book for an assignment in one of my English classes. But the books I was required to read in school didn’t interest me like that one did. I would tell myself I would start reading the other book as soon as I finished the next chapter, but that never happened due to me reading until I fell asleep. If I couldn’t pay attention to my assigned readings I would read the back of the book the day my assignment was due, and fake my way through the essay or test. Surprisingly that worked for me for a while until I reached junior high.…

Early adulthood proved I was in my prime with reading; I averaged two books a week. I took pride in the amount of books that filled the shelves in my home. Paperbackswap.com was the closest I got to any form of social media, and it was to swap books with other members. My reading and writing started to slow down in my middle twenties. Life sort of happened. First, a boyfriend, then the demands of a home, with the babies coming soon after. I never fully let it go, though; it stayed tucked away until the right moment showed itself.…

    My Writing Experience

Writing has not always been a strong suit of mine. Even in the present moment I sometimes struggle with writing. I have done numerous papers, ranging from daily journals to argumentative essays. I will admit that the older I grew I realized that writing helps in many ways. It can be a form of stress relieving, which I sometimes take into consideration when I have sort of a lot going on mentally. Many writing assignments were about what I liked to do hobby-wise, what my plans were for the future career/ school-wise, how I felt about certain discussed subjects nationwide such as the election of a black president, the rights for gay marriage, as well as oversea discussions, like the human trafficking in Thailand.…

I don't have a long, descriptive story of how I learned to read and write and how I loved it along the way. There are only a few memorable events that shaped my literacy experience. I would have to say my writing is average and its nothing really special about it. There is some things I want to work on to make my papers as good as they could be. My strength as a writer is that I stay on topic and I hit all the points I suppose to hit. One of my challenge is that I don’t go into detail about my topic. I usually get straight to the point and I will have to go back and add details to meet the word requirements.…

I am not a professional reader, nor am I a professional writer. As a matter of fact, I don’t like writing at all, but then writing is a part of life. I was only 6 years old when I started to take an interest in reading and also started to learn how to read. My grandmother was a greater reader. She would read to me all the time and encourage me to read anything I could get my hands on. I would always see her with a book during her spare time.…
