George R. R. Martin’s short story about zombies does not focus on the zombie apocalypse as so many stories and movies do in today’s popular zombie culture. In what can only be assumed to be a far distant future, Martin’s zombies are surgically altered humans whose brains have been replaced by a synthetic alternative. This turns these formerly alive humans into form of cheap, or slave, labor that is exploited on planets where most humans are either unwilling, or unable to work (Martin, 2008). Martin’s zombies in this story harken back to the origins of the modern zombie mythos. Those being derived from the African slaves who toiled on the sugar plantations of Hatti (Estes, 2012). I do not think it is any coincidence that Martin’s zombies are…
If I were to change anything in the book I would have changed the ending. When it ended right in the middle of action I was very mad. I really wanted to know what happened next and just wanted to just continue on with the book. The story did end the way I expected. At the end it ended with a huge cliff hanger. So far there hasn’t been another book and it has been 5 years since it came out. The story didn’t end the way I expected. I thought the ending would have ended with Zach fighting the Bad and destroying their organization. Instead the book ends with Zach saving Senator Kerrigan's life, and Mr. Herbert taking one of the bullets and dying. I can relate to being a student athlete. Zach is a very smart and does well in school, and is a very good athlete who a variety of sports at his…
Social justice is a given theme for science fiction. Phi’s zombie apocalypse is also a social commentary on conditions that exist today. However, to ignore the particular ways in which social justice moves through these stories would be to deny that science fiction has also participated in authority of depression. Brown said, “if we want to bring new worlds into existence, then we need to challenge the narratives that uphold current power dynamics and patterns.” That’s how Brow used science fiction is not only for describing the condition, but it also for the social change…
It is evident that the recent outbreak of the z-virus that is sweeping across the Asian continent has created a zombie epidemic that has claimed many human lives and continues to spread rapidly. The number of those affected by the virus is currently in the thousands and continues to grow by the hour. If left unchecked, this epidemic could spread across the ocean and into our territories within days. Seeing how fast the disease spreads and how catastrophic it could become if it were to enter the U.S., we need to take prompt and decisive actions to halt the virus on its path of destruction. Thus, it is imperative that the president of the United States orders our borders to be shut down, avoid any cooperation…
When stocking and collecting food and water, the safest place to be in the zombie invasion will be Lame Deer, survivors stay in Lame Deer more than anywhere else. The next important thing to do is finding a bus, u haul truck, or trucks, bigger vehicles will make it easier to pack on supplies and resources. Taking as much gas as possible with you is great so you won’t have to worry about breaking down on the road, which will get you killed. The road to Lame Deer isn’t dangerous until on the divide, undead are walking and eating the remains of corpses that have been dragged out of cars that have crashed recently. It’s safer to have a car in front of the bus that is carrying the supplies and having another behind the bus because having a defense…
Now the way that the story built around her disappearing into the night it made it feel as if she were to be found dead, which invoked a feeling of suspicion and added tension. When we learn that she has just kind of gone mad by adorning a necklace of human tongues and said she had found herself within the forests of Vietnam. The final event that actually affected me had to definity been the death of Kiowa, probably my favorite character within this novelization. We learn through Norman Bowker, who by the way blames himself for his death, that Kiowa had died since he could not save him from the shit field on the Song Tra Bong. In “Notes” we learn that Norman Bowker is filled with guilt that he could not save his dear friend Kiowa, who also was loved by the rest of Alpha Company. Mitchell Sanders even blames Jimmy Cross for setting up camp on a terrible position and is the reason Kiowa’s dead. Even Azar stops being a total jerk when he finally sees the dead body of Kiowa, Kiowa’s death was an important one for the characters of the novel and the readers of the novel. Overall I actually really enjoyed this book, it peaked my interest unlike most war…
- I thought the author did a good job making the story realistic through the dialogue, characters, and plot. (esp. the characters’ individual situations like Juliana’s desire to quit, or Embry’s attitude towards everything)…
The topic that I would like to address for my zombie project is a more efficient mode of transportation in order to survive a zombie apocalypse. In The Zombie Survival Guide, Max Brooks he explains different means of transportation but limits them to water or air travel. In an apocalypse, healthy surviving humans should not be restricted to their means of travel. In order to stay alive, an adequate form of transportation is a necessity. Walking is too dangerous and slow, while a standard car purposes many different problems. A solar powered or a hydrogen fuel cell car are optimum modes of transportation during a zombie apocalypse.…
Carol starts out in The Walking Dead, a popular TV show, as soft-spoken and defenseless. She is abused by her husband, Ed, who eventually dies from being bitten by a zombie. Carol’s daughter, Sophia, is also soft-spoken, fearful, and defenseless like her mother, which is the cause of her turning into a zombie and eventually being killed. After Ed and Sophia died, Carol became independent and realistic. She knows that the world is a cruel place and must survive any way possible.…
The zombie apocalypse outbreak is said to be coming and it will be the worst one yet. Scientist believe that the zombies will consist of special infected zombies. A rumor spread around with the name of some of the special infected zombies. Some the names that were found consisted of, The Boomer, The Smoker, The Hunter, and The Spitter. All of these zombies are very dangerous and you should avoid them at all times. No one knows when the zombies will come or how they will come but it is said this will be the worst apocalypse of all. To survive the zombie apocalypse you will need items should weapons, food, and fresh water. You will need weapons to defend yourself from the horrifying zombies, deranged humans, and to catch yourself delicious food. The food is important because without food you will become weak and will not be able to survive. The water is also used for the same reason as the food.…
The response by the military in the film to the zombie outbreak appears to be far more rapid that would be expected based on Brooks’ descriptions of zombie outbreaks. Barry’s sister Brook is show as being captured by a pair of military men searching for survivors in what seems to be the morning after the outbreak. What could at first possibly be seen as a rescue quickly takes a nefarious turn as the men rough handle and test Brook’s blood for an unknown purpose. Once her blood checks out, the men knock Brooke out and take her to an insane doctor who is experimenting on the undead in the back of a highly modified truck. His actions in experimenting on Brooke and the zombies cause her to change into something more than human. Brooke gains the ability to control the zombies around her and uses them to kill the doctor and free herself. She later uses this ability to save both Barry and herself from the military men who captured her in the first place (Roache-Turner & Roache-Turner, 2014).…
James looked at him and said,” I knew he was by my side, when he died.” John turned a ghostly white and sat down beside him. “Did you say you were there?” James said as his eyes glazed over,” Yeah I was. Our post has been outside the capital. There was something strange about that day. You could feel it in the air, that something just wasn’t right. I just couldn’t place my finger on it…dam it… It smelled like death. I just couldn’t shake the feeling something just wasn’t right. I had extremely bad vibes that day.…
I loved the style and , I think, it is very upbeat, interesting, exciting and descriptive. One thing I would change about this book is that the author would not hurry through it, and have a more powerful ending.…
I thought it was a sad ending. It didn’t really have a conclusion, but since it was a story telling us about the…
