In William Shakespeare?s Julius Caesar, Brutus and Cassius are very influential characters. Each character makes many mistakes with the assassination plans and the strategies at Philippi. Each man has his reasons for their mistakes, if it is either their idealism, being uncompassionate or not, fully thinking for their actions. Brutus and Cassius are very contrasting people; one man is better suited to be a leader of a battle and an Empire, than the other. That man is: Marcus Brutus. Although Brutus makes many consequential mistakes, his errors are made because his nobleness outranks his intelligence. Whereas for Cassius, his mistakes are made from poor decision making. Brutus himself knows that he is often too honourable and not as realistic as he should be. ?I am not gamesome; I do lack some part / Of that quick spirit that is in Antony? [Act I, Scene II, L 28 ? 29]. By knowing this, that makes Brutus a better and stronger leader, since he is able to admit to his weakness.…

In Shakespeare’s’ Julius Caesar the idea of honour was a central element to the play. By definition honour involves a sense of self-sacrifice and the quality of knowing and doing something morally right; although this definition was challenged by characters trying to balance personal honour and national honour. Many circumstances in the play occurred due to the characters attempting to be honourable and others acting in spite of it. Although the word honour was mentioned numerous times there was little evidence of characters actually displaying this trait. This essay will explore characters that didn’t show honour and had negative traits but also cover the little honour that was shown, by characters such as Brutus. Honour was spoken about more than it was shown but there is still some evidence of honour displayed in this play.…

However Hundert finds his tightly-controlled world shaken and inexorably altered when a new student, Sedgewick Bell (Emile Hirsch), walks into his classroom. Sedgewick Bell is the cocky son of a senior senator who possesses none of Hundert's principles. Initially, a fierce battle of wills takes place between Hundert and Bell. Bell's rebellious nature quickly makes him the interest of the class, as he not only is willing to talk back against Hundert, he also freely shares pornographic material and is willing to play hooky and travel to a nearby prep school for girls. Despite Blythe's constant pleas to not break rules, Masoudi and even studious Mehta find themselves enjoying their rebellious tendencies with Bell. Despite this, Hundert is able to humiliate Bell when he asks the class to list, in chronological order, all the Roman emperors. All the other students comply in perfect unison, effectively embarrassing Bell who has not studied the course material. Upon his arrival at St. Benedict’s, Sedgewick Bell, the son of the senator, showed no interest or care in the classics and preferred to spend his time with other matters. He was a particularly bright student who showed potential for greatness. However; his hesitance to study like the rest of his peers did started to influence his classmates negatively and this is something that Mr. Hundert wanted to prevent from happening. It eventually became evident that Sedgewick had no interest whatsoever in Mr. Hundert’s class but he saw a possibility of greatness in Sedgewick that the other students lacked. The boy’s behavior in class changed when he finally felt someone believe in him and actually care about him like his teacher did. He became insistent to prove his worth and showed Mr. Hundert that he was right to believe in him the way he did. Of course, Mr. Hundert was excited about the progress he was seeing in Sedgewick and in his students that he felt bad when he saw Sedgewick did not do enough to participate in the Mr. Julius Cesar contest. He then changed the grades he gave Sedgewick, just enough for him to make the cut for the contest instead of his classmate, Martin Blythe. Sedgewick cheats in the competition and Mr. Hundert is forced to throw him a curveball question that he would only know if he had actually been listening in class. Sedgewick loses the competition along with his…
