The Day I Met Nick
The excitement I feel before I see him is like nothing I ever felt. The day was going by so slow and I could not wait any longer, so I left to pick him up. On the way there I could almost feel actual butterflies fluttering in my stomach. His name is Nick Massoni, complete with dirty blonde hair, bright blue eyes and pale Irish skin; he is the youngest of three handsome sons. He is a pleasure to be near and he can always turn my frown upside down. There he was running out of the house like the speed of light to my car because he was wearing a paper thin shirt and no jacket. He sat there shivering as cold as an ice cube in a freezer so I blasted the heat. After seeing him all of my nerves vanished and I felt my personality start to shine through the brick wall I carry around my self. I watched as Nick's facial expression changed to fright as I sang my little heart out, but that was nothing I did not expect from him.
On the way to my house, which is about a 10 minute car ride, we both established we were both starving. What better then to make a date out of it, so I cooked for him. I made pasta and chicken cutlets, the house flourished with that delightful Italian scent not one person can despise. As we ate the crunchy but soft steaming hot chicken cutlets that could almost melt in your mouth, and the sweet taste of vodka sauce on penne pasta, we started to talk. I asked “why don't you want to go out with me?” he quickly replied “I do.” I could feel the but about to jump into the conversation, “but, you have to be patient,” he explained “it's gonna happen soon than you think.” To clarify I responded in a serious tone, “when, I'm not gonna wait forever.” Then he hinted to me “ten seconds..” A clue that completely baffled me.
It was 10:30 pm now, we decided it was time to get ready and go out. We hoped in the black mysterious looking jeep wrangler, and drove off cautiously. After arriving at this party, it was like walking into a jungle, a vicious kind of jungle

While I look down at it, I think of a boy I once knew, of how, for a short time, he was a dash of color in my monochrome world. I think of how I drew him flowers; how one morning, he stood silently behind me and watched me draw them with a broken pen; how he swiped the card I drew them on away from me and held it close to his eyes, smiling, telling me how much he liked them. I remember going home that night and painting flowers the same strawberry pink as the tulip resting in my fingers, and I remember drawing those flowers again in black and white a week later. Those I drew on an envelope with his name written in large cursive letters in the middle. Inside was a goodbye I knew…

My phone was glued to my hand by the sweat of my hand, I held it all though the night. I had waited for this day for over a year, and I couldn’t understand what was holding me back from jumping out of my bed and leaping into the car. Dragging my feet over to my dresser, I slipped on the mandatory blue jersey polo and cringed as I saw myself in the mirror; I looked like a mess. While eating a blueberry bagel, I grabbed my carry on and suit case and headed out to the car. I could barely keep my eyes open and my stomach was filing with butterflies the closer we got to the…

I remember the first time I stayed awake throughout the night till a beaming light peaked through the window and hit my face like the touch of a baby's hand. Although the morning had risen, the moon had just come up. In the intensity of rushing to school, the need for pleasing others with looks has gone past me. The knots and tangles I feel in my stomach have also reached my hair as I pull parts of my day out of the strands.…

March 2nd of 2011 in Charlotte NC I just receive 2 phone calls. The first one was from my lawyer in Morganton notifying me that several indictments had come through. The other was from Detective South of the Burke County Sheriff’s Office, telling me that I had no choice but to turn myself in. I remember him saying “If you run I will find you”. I thought about running from my troubles, but that isn’t a life that I wanted. The next day I took the long drive from Charlotte NC to Morganton NC knowing that I was going to jail for a long time. I turn myself in at the Magistrates office thinking that I will be showed some leniency, after all I was only 18 years old and it was the first time I had been in trouble. I thought wrong, I was given copies of my indictments and arrest warrants, given a 23,000 dollar bond and placed in Jail. I cried like I have never cried before, after all I was only a teenager going to jail with grown men.…

The morning went so fast, I was slightly nervous about seeing Josie again since it had been three months since our last encounter. I put on a t-shirt and shorts on then stood in front of the mirror as I splashed my face with water. I looked at the clock and saw it was 11:50 so I grabbed my helmet and jacket as I pushed my motorcycle out the garage. It wasn’t until I got to the street before Subway that I realised my phone had fallen out of my pocket and I had left my wallet at home. I knew then I was going to be late and Josie was going to…

It was a bright and sunny day, and the last bell of the day just went off in St. Mark’s Academy. The rumbling of kids and the slamming of lockers was all you heard as the first day of school was over. You could see class syllabi being trampled on as everyone stormed out of the school and into their parent’s cars or buses. I lived a few blocks down from the school so I was expected to walk each and every day, but it wasn’t a lonely road as I had my friend Josh that just lived a street over from me. Josh and I have been best friends since 3rd grade and you could barely separate us from each other. We loved to play video games and we would talk about them just about every time were together. In the mites of our conversation of who could beat who in halo, Josh stopped and starred at the old abandoned house on Maple St. I turned and said to him and said “what’s up?” he looked and me then back at the house and said i dare you to walk around that house. I looked at him and laughed and said there was no way I would enter that house. The house gave off a foggy feel that made the hair stand up on your back; it had two broken windows, and a front door that would slam continuously as the wind blew. He then…

“I can’t do this,” you told your reflection. Your whole life you had been afraid of commitment, or more accurately, of making the jump to tell someone how you felt about them. Tomorrow you were scheduled to do just that in front of hundreds of people you both knew and didn’t know. Was it really worth it? Was it worth the embarrassment? Oh God. What if he says ‘no’? The thought made you feel…

I walked in to what was seemingly modern for what i thought camp would be. It had nice hardwood floors and separate showers. The bunk beds looked about new, and had actual mattresses on it. As i was walking in, another over-enthusiastic girl welcomed me. She told me her name was Alexa and she would be my counselor. I said hello and told her my name was Hannah as i rushed over to the farthest bunk. My bags had made it here before i did, which was no surprise, so i unpacked my things taking only one shelf for myself. Once every girl was there, we all had to play the most common game, when coming to a new place, and introduce ourselves. After that, we chugged ourselves back up a steep hill to get to a building the called the…

March 26, 2004 I got up at 7 am and took me a good hot bath. After my bath I put me on some clothes to go to the hospital in Rutherfordton. On this day all I could smell was the scent of hot spring air, birds chirping, and fresh spring flowers. This was the day my labor was induced and I gave birth to my first son. I was 17 years old not expecting to jump head first into a teenage life as being a mother. Leaving home going to the hospital was my husband, grandmother, and my mother. When I got there, a nurse by the name of heather signed me in. After that is when everything got real interesting.…

It was about to be a new year so my family decided to invite our neighbors over to our house for a new year's eve party. The night of the party arose and the neighbors were starting to enter through the black door covered in glass welcoming us into the neighborhood. As I was meeting my new neighbors, I met a boy that lived straight across the street from me in the one story, tan stucco house with the blue shutters. The boy’s name was Shawn. Shawn had dark brown hair with tan, olive skin. His eyes were deep brown, that I found myself mesmerized by, falling into them as I found myself falling for him. There was not an awkward moment at all that between us that night, we talked for hours as we watched the orange and pink sun rise. The following day we hung out all day and from them I had made my first friend on the northshore. Shawn had sarcastic, upbeat attitude just like me. It was like Shawn and I were the same person. We got along perfectly, however, sometimes we had our moments, but who didn’t? Shawn taught me how to have fun without doing the bad things I would have been doing living in New Orleans. With Shawn as my best friend we were always having fun and staying out of trouble. Six months into our friendship Shawn told me he had stronger feelings for me other than just friends. During that summer, Shawn asked me to be his girlfriend. I have never had a boyfriend before so Shawn would be the first one.…

I casually walked down the stairs, and I saw something on the table. Confused at what it was, I walked closer. It was a shiny, small, white slip of paper. When I got closer, I realized it was a ticket to the Bulls game. My head exploded like a balloon. My face lit up like a light bulb because of how happy I was. I never went to a Bulls game before and I was really excited. I liked the Bulls a lot and I had a lot of Bulls clothing except I never really watched any of the games and I didn’t know many players. Either way, I wanted to thank him. So, since we was at work, I called him. I’m sitting at the table listening to the phone ring as the inside of me is screaming with joy, jumping around, and my heart is beating faster than a tornado.” I’m…

In my past, I was a partier. I did drink and experimented with drugs. Becoming a mother made me not interested in those things anymore. I was thinking about how to be the best mom I could be, how to better mine and Cheyenne’s life, and what to do next. I believe this is normal when you have a kid. I took all these thoughts into consideration though. I did not grow up knowing my birth family, I was in foster care. I really did not want that for my daughter. To keep this from happening I continued to think, and wanted to…

One moment I was running, running fast, quickly, aggressively. The next moment I’m on the ground crying holding my leg. It happened so fast I didn’t know one movement from the next. After a while I notice I’m on the bench with an ice bag on my knee, while watching my team lose to a great team. After the game I went to the mall able to walk again. The next day I played again, thinking it was nothing but a bruise.…
