The Curse Of Macbeth By William Shakespeare

Shakespeare has left a big mark on our history. With all his plays and stories. But one really stood out to everyone, “Macbeth.” Ever since it was first shown people have believed there is a curse on this production. That causes horrible events to occurs surrounding the production. Macbeth was produced in 1623 and still today this curse of Macbeth haunts the theaters. It waits for someone to say the unspoken word. It seems as if there isn't one production of “Macbeth” that doesn't have a disaster occur. But what if there was a way to reverse the curse?

Macbeth was written by William Shakespeare. Many people believe that if you say “Macbeth” inside a theatre, it releases a curse on you and the production (“Schumm”). There are many theories as to why there is a curse; one theory is that Shakespeare included actual black magic spells in the dialogue of the weird sisters. In fact one of the many film directors, Justin Kurzel, said that,”you could feel all the Macbeths that have died there and many wars”
In fact, a leading boy actor playing Lady Macbeth died backstage on opening night. The production was cancelled. Marion Cotillard was unable to attend the red carpet walking because she was too ill to attend (Curse). It also caused one man to jump off a balcony during intermission for Macbeth and kill himself. He was 82 years old (Double). During one performance in 1849, a riot occurred killing more than 30 people (Macbeth). Another riot followed a protest killing more than 20 people. In one week in 1934 4 different actors had to play the role of Macbeth. The first actor, Malcolm Keen, lost his voice. The second actor developed pneumonia. Marius Goring was fired, so John Laurie took the part. In just one week it took 4 actors to play one part, because someone slipped the word.
