The Comfortable, Flashy, and Ugly
There are many types of shoes that millions of Americans use everyday and that can be classified by purpose. There are shoes for sports, pleasure, and work.
The first classification is shoes for sports. People normally wear tennis shoes for sports’ activities but they can be worn for almost anything. There are running shoes, walking shoes, basketball shoes, and even cross training shoes. The great thing about tennis shoes is that they are comfortable and can be worn almost anywhere. Tennis shoes can be worn by both men and women and can be worn with almost anything like jeans, shorts, capris, skirts, and even dresses. In the world today there are dozens of brands that make tennis shoes. These brands include: Nike, Adidas, Reebok, New Balance, and Jordan Brand to name a few. No matter what the brand of tennis shoe or the sport, tennis shoes have come to stay as a staple in everyone’s life.
The next classification of shoes is shoes worn for pleasure. The type of shoe most worn for pleasure is the flip-flop. People wear flip-flops to the beach or pool because they do not want water or sand in their other shoes and it is easier to clean your feet. They also wear them to these places because they can easily kick them off and jump in the ocean or pool. One other place flip-flops are worn is to school. People wear them to school because they are comfortable and do not restrict your feet. Flip-flops have become universal because people wear them with jeans, pants, dresses, skirts, and shorts. There are two types of flip-flops. There are the thong flip-flops that have a piece of rubber, leather, or fabric that slides in between your big toe and the adjacent toe. Girls are the most common users of this type of flip-flop because they love to show off their pretty painted toes. The second type of flip-flop is the over the foot type. This type of flip-flop has a piece of rubber, leather, or fabric that forms a bar over the top mid-section of your foot.

loves to wear, for mainly for aesthetics, the [ancient] flip-flop. Wearing flip-flops is becoming more common in today’s world; a women’s lacrosse team wore them in the Oval Office under the Bush Administration (Stevens 688). While Stevens finds them acceptable to wear round pools, at the beach, short trips outside, and at the gym, there are a safety problem in other places, like the airport, subway, and offices. Flip-flops have a thin sole and no support which does not give one’s foot the protection that it needs. The joints in the foot become worn because the thin sole of flip-flops do not provide enough cushion of a foot walking on a hard surface. They also do not offer protection from stepping in common items in today’s street: gum, nails, glass, and oil. The lack of support because of no back or front in the design of flip-flops also contributes to less maneuverability. Jeff Gray, a pedorthist, claims that the lack of maneuverability while wearing flip-flops adds to the probability of a fall or other serious injury (Stevens…
