The Book of James
The Book of James was written by James the Just who was believed to be the brother of Jesus. Not to be confused with the apostle James, who died before the Book of James was written. It is said he was the leader of the Jerusalem council. Jesus had several brothers, and it is believed James was the oldest. Though, early on James did not believe Jesus’ word, he later became extremely important in the church. The Book of James starts out teaching believers to test their faith. James 1:3-4 says because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. He tells us to put our faith into action, “In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead”. He goes on to describe how without works, faith is ineffective. “You see that his faith and his actions were working together, and his faith was made complete by what he did.” (2:22) In order to show evidence of our faith in Jesus, we must do good works. James goes on to tell us we are all sinners, and that one sin is as bad as many. If you have broken one commandment, you have broken them all. “For whoever keeps the whole law and yet stumbles in one point, he has become guilty of all” (2:10) He warns us about being quick to anger and that we need to stop and listen. “My dear brothers, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry, for man's anger does not bring about the righteous life that God desires.” (1:19-20)
Chapter 3 speaks of controlling our actions, mainly the actions of our tongue. He says we are quick to boast, but we need to use our tongue to speak of God’s works. We cannot, with faith speak curse words and praise God from the same mouth. “With the tongue we praise our Lord and Father, and with it we curse men, who have been made in God's likeness. Out of the same mouth come praise and cursing. My brothers, this should not be. (3:9-10) He also speaks of wisdom, and that those who are wise need to show it through their good

Reading further, I found that James has some very distinct characteristics. The book has a very Jewish nature, for instance it uses the Hebrew title for God, kyrios sabaoth, which means Lord Almighty. Also, James is organized in a way that is very simple and easy to follow. It has ten distinct sections with the titles that clearly tell the reader what they’re about. A third characteristic of James is that it emphasizes that Christianity is a vital part of everyone’s everyday lives. Doing good deeds alone will not be enough; one has to have a strong faith and show that by living out a faithful lifestyle that accompanies one’s faith.…

King James I, the son of Mary, Queen of Scots, and Henry Stuart, Lord Darnley, was coronated to king of England in the year 1603 in which he was already an experienced monarch due to the fact that he has been ruling over Scotland since 1567. James believed that kings are a representation of god on earth and that kings cannot be judged or punished by the “mere” humans but by god. Even though he did not have any obligations to obey the law he did anyways to be an example to his followers. One significant attribute of King James was that he was the first one to reign sovereignly in the three monarchical kingdoms…

Against such there is no law” (p.674). This verse speaks of how true character is developed through the situations that people face. Actions almost always speak louder than the words people speak. When actions are not proper, good, or following in the manner that true character would deem appropriate, then the devil is at work and people must fight this if they are to show Jesus and his ways to the…

The first 39 books of the larger work called the Bible, is called the Old Testament. The Bible itself is arguably the best selling and most read book of all time, yet it’s well known to be quite challenging to read through and understand. The Old Testament portion of the Bible, notably the most difficult portion of the Bible for most to study and follow, yields 39 books from multiple authors, and spans over 4000 years of crucial world and church history. If that were not enough to take on, the Old Testament comes our way through multiple styles of authorship and formats, including but not limited to, books of history, law, proverbs, ethics, philosophy, treatises, dramas, songs, epics, biographies, and letters. There have been many books written and published to survey, explain, and/or bring to light the Old Testament, but none more helpful to me than the review subject of this paper, the work of Dr. Elmer L. Towns, entitled “A Journey Through the Old Testament”.…

First, James sometimes quotes the preaching voice of our Lord verbatim. Just consider James 5:12, "Above all, my brothers, do not swear -- not by heaven or by earth or by anything else. Let your 'Yes' be yes, and your 'No,' no, or you will be condemned," (NIV, emphasis mine). The italicized portions of this verse represent nearly verbatim quotations found in Matthew 5:33-37.…

James is the best book in the Bible, in my opinion. I love James because it is themed around perseverance and encouragement. James 1:12 says, "Bless is the one who perseveres under trial because having stood the test that person will receive the crown of life that the Lord has promised to those who love him.” James wrote this book to inspire Jewish believers to endure and live bold Christian lives. The book of James was written in the time span between 48 AD and 49 AD. James is all about just displaying how Christians should really live their lives. James also teaches about faith and not just faith but works, also known as serving. Faith without works is dead as he mentions in James. You can have faith, but if you keep it to yourself then there…
