One cold night after school Michael is spotted in a pair of shorts and a t.shirt by Leigh Anne Tuohy, the wife of Sean Tuohy; a teacher at his school. He is then asked where he is going and tells them the gym, because it is warm there. He is invited to get in the car and they take him to their place. He spends his first night of many at the Tuohy’s house. Through enduring the shame of homelessness and the difficulty of adolescence without a family to call his own, Michael eventually triumphs the obstacles he finds while reaching for his dream and is successful. Homelessness was a large obstacle in Michael’s life. Taken away from his mother at a very young age as she was unfit to look after him due to being a drug addict, Michael was fostered many times, although he always ran away searching for his mum. As he got older, Michael decided that he’d rather be homeless than live with foster parents and be separated from his mother. He had to find food by himself, wash his own clothes and find places to sleep. Michael was lonely and lived without family mostly ’till he was taken in by the Tuohys.
