The Bingham Light
The Bingham Light

In the small town of Dillon South Carolina was a small community called Bingham. As a child we were told many stories of the Bingham Light. Ghostly haunting stories by many were told about the farmer John Bingham and how he haunted the woods. This is a short story of my experience. According to legend, which changes from generation to generation, the farmer tried to warn an oncoming train with his lantern of the broken train tracks, which resulted in him being decapitated and he is still looking for his head. Others say he murdered many and buried them by the railroad tracks. The train tracks are no longer there. Some people say as you walk closer towards the glowing light it gets hotter, changes colors, and chances you. My mom and stepdad took my brother and I and some other family members down to the woods one night, as we all wanted to see the infamous Bingham light. It seemed like we walked forever in the woods until we came upon a clearing in the middle of the woods. It was only about a mile though, where we had to stand and shout out John Bingham’s name until the light appeared. As we were shouting out his name, low and behold a light in the distance appeared. It was far off but you could continuously see it moving closer and closer to us. The temperature changed. It didn’t get hotter but cooler. It was very scary to be in the middle of the woods to start off with, then to see this light coming toward us even after we stopped calling his name was terrifying. We didn’t stand around for it to get to close to us. We all started running as fast as we could out of those woods. There was loud screaming coming from all of us. I remember crying and hanging on to my mom for dear life. When we got out of the woods we looked back and the light was gone. We then began to laugh. No one can say if there really is a ghost out there in those woods or if we let our imagination get the best of us. It could even be someone else playing tricks on people. I don’t know if people still go out to those woods now or not but I will never forget my trip out to those woods, and my family and I never went back. Once was enough for us. The truth is we did see that light that night. Our small town in notorious for this light. I am sure some people stories of the light is a lot different than mine. Whatever the case may be, looking back I am sure I will never do that again. I love going to horror shows and haunted houses, but taking myself out into the middle of the woods at night, nope that will not happen. There are stories like these in a lot of small towns I am sure. As it gets closer to Halloween, you will hear people tell all kinds of stories about different places and things that happen. Who knows which ones are true or false? Would you like to take a trip to the small town of Bingham and find out for yourself?

In 1979, when Frank D’Amico was staying in the mansion his wife experienced something rather bizarre. It was late in the night and she was preparing to climb into her bed when she saw what looked like a dark figure standing at the foot of her bed. It seemed to be coming straight towards her in a strange gliding motion. Panicking, she found the lamp on her bedside table and turned it on. As the light flickered, it illuminated all corners of the bedroom and there was nobody there. Whatever dark figure that had sent chills down her spine had vanished as suddenly as it had appeared.…

Have you ever wondered if that shadow just escaping your peripheral sight is part of the paranormal or is it in fact just your imagination? Do ghosts really exist in the reality, or are they a combination of environmental factors and the human mind? 'Ghosts' are one of the most controversial concepts in history as it the paranormal, something that is way beyond the human understanding and in a different dimension. There many different opinions regarding ghosts, specifically the religious and the scientific perceptions. In a religious sense, they are seen as a spirit of a once living person or a demon or evil angels from hell that can take form of different beings. The scientific approach, and the more sensible of the two judgements, suggests that ghosts are merely created in the human brain due to the influence of the chemicals in the particular environment or due to mental disorders.…

Paranormal activity has been a hot topic worldwide for decades. Horror movies, novels, and television shows have been based on myths, legends, and even stories that are claimed to be true. Since many choose to watch or read about ghosts, there is debate over the authenticity of the stories and the existence of apparitions altogether. Author Joe Nickell, a stage magician, private investigator, and journalist argues that his experience with apparitions proves that paranormal accounts are entirely false, specifically involving notoriously haunted hotels, inns, and other lodgings. He offers several premises to debunk the ghostly accounts of people worldwide, using quotes and analysis from a variety of researchers and also his own personal encounters.…

As a child, I was raised my whole life in the country side. My mother and I had lived for years in a lonely shack at the edge of the small village we called home. At the very edge of the village was an eerie forest, a forest that seemed to beckon unwary fools into entering it. I was always told as a child to never go near the forest, especially at night. Some people say that a bear lives there, while others say that a serial killer lives there, and some even say that a monster lives there, either way the forest is always portrayed with death. I remember various occasions in which I would wake up for reasons unknown, only to find myself outside in my backyard staring at the edge of the forest, the soft moonlight caressing my bare skin, the crisp night air followed by the refreshing scent of grass. On one occasion I thought I heard a…

One night Lynse, Sophia, Macy, and I were hanging out. It was around 10 o'clock when we decided to go outside and jump on the trampoline. When we got out there we were having so much fun. We were doing flips and playing games, just doing our normal thing. After awhile all of a sudden, we all heard this noise. Right, next to Lynses house there is woods and cornfields so it made it more creepy. Then we all looked by her shed and we saw this huge shadow. We didn't know what it was but our first instinct was that it was a cat but it wasn't. Again it made this noise and we knew that it was a raccoon. We all went to grab our phones to call her dad but we forgot that we had put them under the trampoline for light since it was so light. We were all nervous to get…
