The Big Bang Theory
The Big Bang Theory

What is the Big Bang Theory?
The Big Bang is the dominant (and highly supported) theory of the origin of the universe. In essence, this theory states that the universe began from an initial point or singularity which has expanded over billions of years to form the universe as we now know it.
In 1959 a survey was conducted of scientists across America concerning their understanding of the physical sciences. One particular question asked “What is your concept of the age of the Universe?” More than two thirds of the scientists polled responded that there was no origin of the Universe. They believed that the Universe was eternal.
Then five years later, in 1964, radio astronomers Arno Penzias and Robert Wilson discovered a microwave signal buried in their data. They attempted to filter out the signal, assuming that it was merely unwanted noise. However, they soon realized what the signal actually was; they had inadvertently discovered the Cosmic Microwave Background (CMB). The CMB had been predicted by a theory that few believed at the time called the Big Bang. This discovery was the first evidence that the Universe had a beginning.

The Big Bang
Once it was understood that the Universe had a beginning, scientists began to ask “how did it come into existence, and what existed before it?”
Most scientists now believe that the answer to the first part of the question is that the Universe sprang into existence from a singularity -- a term physicists use to describe regions of space that defy the laws of physics. We know very little about singularities, but we believe that others probably exist in the cores of black holes.
The second part of the question, as to what existed before the Big Bang, has scientists baffled. By definition, nothing existed prior to the beginning, but that fact creates more questions than answers. For instance, if nothing existed prior to the Big Bang, what caused the singularity to be created in the first place?

Historical Background: Between 1500 and 1700, scientists, or natural philosophers as they were called, developed a new scientific worldview. A heliocentric model of the universe replaced the traditional geocentric model. Different methods for discovering scientific laws were developed. Scientists envisioned a universe composed of matter in motion, which could best be understood through mathematics and experiment. Investigators of nature organized into scientific disciplines and societies were founded throughout Europe to facilitate the study of scientific questions.…

It is unthinkable that we created ourselves or some big band theory of nonsense can ever explain the great handy work God has created in the heavens and on earth. How arrogant we humans have become. This symphony of unison, one accord, teamwork, and movement of stars speaks and coexist across the galaxies clear into the unknown and back again, without a glitch, from the beginning of time. Our bad behaviors are also consistent from the beginning of time as well.…

There are many theories about how the universe, earth, and humans came into existence. Some aim to prove the existence of God, that a large explosion created all life, or even that everything has just always existed. One of these theories works to answer questions about creation and prove the existence of the Christian God; this theory is known as the Teleological argument. To expand my basis of knowledge on this subject I consulted Matthew Esters, who recently wrote about the same topic.…

In the beginning there was darkness everywhere, and Chaos ruled.Within the darkness there formed an egg, and inside the egg the giant Pangu came into being. For aeons, safely inside the egg, Pangu slept and grew. When he had grown to gigantic size he stretched his huge limbs and in so doing broke the egg. The lighter parts of the egg floated upwards to form the heavens and the denser parts sank downwards, to become the earth. And so was formed earth and sky, Yin and Yang.…

If an infinitely old universe is impossible then it must be finite, that is it must have had a beginning. Now, why did this beginning come to be? This theory then presupposes that, as per our experience, the universe must have been caused by something. The only something with the ability to cause without itself having been caused is God. There is no cause outside of time except god himself. Therefore only God could have created the universe.…

Humanity has watched the cycle of birth and death for generations after generations, therefore, it is logical for us to conclude that all living things on earth must have a beginning. However, for decades now, mankind has not come to an agreement on “the beginning” of everything, how and what caused all living things to come to life. Some believe in an intelligent Creator, others believe in the making and transforming of things by accidental chemical processes. This is where the theory of evolution comes in, which was talked about in Ian Johnston’s article The Short Proof of Evolution.…

Since the creation of the universe is typically explained by two popular beliefs. One being the scientific explanation and the other being biblical explanation. These are two very different explanations, and while I believe ones religious beliefs can have a role in which explanation one chooses to follow, one is free to choose how they believe the world was created. The scientific explanation is explained by the "Big Bang Theory". A basic definition of the "Big Bang Theory" is that the universe began at a specific time and has been cooling and expanding ever since. According to this explanation, a hot ball of energy expanded outward…
