The Bachelor Season 20: Show Analysis
The Bachelor Season 20 finale had approximately 9.3 million viewers. The drama on the show, specifically the women’s relations, perpetuate negative stereotypes of women and normalize the unnatural love affairs that are presented on the show. The drama presented on the show is nothing like normal relationships, which is part of the appeal of the show in the first place. “The underlying messages of the shows are beyond terrible. We’re essentially told that all women in their twenties should be desperately searching for a man to marry (most of the 30-something bachelorettes are portrayed as a particular breed of desperate), and that women are, in general, complete and utter nutjobs. Although, of course, this only applies to white women, as people of color …show more content…
Obviously the whole setting of The Bachelor is unnatural. No one in real world falls in love like that, which is probably one of the reasons The Bachelor has such a low success rate when it comes to maintained long-term relationships. Another much more interesting reason some people watch the bachelor is because they are in a Fantasy League. Similar to a fantasy league for sports a group of friends get together form a “league” and all pay their dues so they can see who's lady will win. There are some where it is a simple bracket similar to “March Madness” then there are some leagues where it is a point system with different actions and outcomes until the season is all added up and whoever has the lady with the most points win. In these fantasy leagues they don't have any stats from last season like most fantasy leagues but only the superficial judgements from the contestants bios and headshots. For a complete set of rules and point system on the fantasy league see appendix

I liked how you highlighted the two important ideas in Valentin’s work “Sex and the City Voters, My Ass.” As what she discussed, even though women’s opinion and feelings about politics are being dismissed, it should not be a reason for them to just ignored and not engaged in politics. Valentin also reviewed the large number of women who did not participate in the elections. They can really make a big difference if they voted and were engaged in politics. Women can possess power, but they have to exercise them according to Michel Foucault’s definition of power. Women can definitely have power, but it is not easy to achieve if they are not taking any actions about it. Women such as Victoria Woodhull, Hillary Clinton, and Shirley…

Television network ABC Family’s breakout comedy series, Modern Family, is a show full of life lessons and hidden meanings. Most television shows nowadays are all about sex, alcohol, and the dramas that occur because of them. Modern Family is not an exception, however it focuses more on the family aspect of life’s many dramas. On the surface, it is similar to the sex and drugs filled television shows that consume the media these days, but underneath that surface each episode has a moral to be learned, and the show overall represents many different assumptions America makes on what a “typical” family is.…

I have watched Everybody Hates Chris ever since I was 10 years old and I still find it to be the best comedic television show on Nick at Night. When you have Chris Rock as the narrator, how can you not laugh? This show is considered to be one of the best shows on TV for family’s and younger children. It normally plays at 9:00 pm every weekday on Nick at Night. You can sometimes catch it weekdays around noon on B.E.T. I like having the show on at this time because on school nights it gives me something to relax to and laugh at. I love everything about this show because it has a common aspect to each episode, has many genres, and the characters are fun and easy to relate to.…

For over a decade ABC’s hit television shows The Bachelor and The Bachelorette have been captivating the hearts of audiences everywhere. The Bachelorette is a spin-off of The Bachelor, which first aired in 2002. Although these two shows both have the same underlying concepts, they are very different. The Bachelor is a show that focuses on one man attempting to find love between twenty-five women, and The Bachelorette is about one woman attempting to find love between twenty-five men. This is an elimination competition. At the end of each episode, there is a rose ceremony. The bachelor or bachelorette reflects on who he or she can still see as a possible soul mate. Anyone who receives a rose stays, and those who come up empty handed are forced to take the limo ride home. Although both of these shows are extremely popular among most all audiences, The Bachelorette tends to appeal more to female audiences than The Bachelor for several reasons.…

Fact is, these shows has taken over the airwaves and in addition taken away a few values that were once beneficial to society. The most watched reality shows send negative messages subliminally to some viewers simply because they identify with these what these reality stars are doing. A lot of the younger viewers think that these people are role models, do not understand how to discipline themselves enough to leave the entertainment world in their fantasies. America’s Next Top Model was created by Tyra Banks in 2003. The show has been popular and successful in it’s ratings, now going on it’s 21st cycle of models (Sauers). One of the show’s values is that they believe in helping girls boost their self-esteem, showing them that they are beautiful in their own way. In one particular episode, they worked with young girls who had been bullied by matching them with a contestant mentor. Although the show seems to be making a positive impact on their viewers, the show unfortunately is stuck in the media’s effect on institutionalized racism. The media follows and enhances common racial beliefs held by it’s audience. Constantly giving the same “roles” based on one’s race. Tyra Banks, an African American…

Though reality TV dating shows have a habit of presenting to its viewers that contestants join entirely for the purpose of finding love, it has been found that that’s not always the truth. Francine, a contestant from season four states, “I haven’t had much luck on my own… Maybe television can help me find the love of my life” (2005, p. 17).
