Summary Response The article “ Kids are kids until they commit crimes ” by Marjie Lundstrom talks about how the under-eighteen crowds are considered kids .Yet when they commit a crime or start acting inadequately they start considering them as adults and they start receiving the consequences an adult would have . Many people do not consider this fair .That is why Ron Wilson ,Democratic State Rep. of Houston suggested to lowering the voting age to fourteen . He also said that “if you want to throw the adult book at kids”(paragraph 8) and give them the consequences of an adult then they can be able to vote too and do things an adult does. This article also talks about how people have created an image that teenagers are something to…
In the article, “No, We Shouldn't Lower the Voting Age to 16” by David Davenport, he states that the lowering of the voting age would negatively affect the country. I agree with Davenport, but he failed to mention the fact that teens lack the life experience, motivation and maturity to vote. Society talks about the age of maturity and responsibility, but they send many different messages. At age 16, teens are allowed to drive and work, but they aren't allowed to vote. At age 18, young adults are allowed to serve and die for their country, but aren't allowed to drink.…
- Studies have shown that when a young person in a household votes, it will impact the rest of the home and often lead other eligible voters in the home…
In the article Takoma Park 16-year-old savors his history making moment at the polls by Annys Shin it talks about the proposal of letting 16 year olds to vote. I believe they shouldn't be allowed to vote. They shouldn't be allowed simply because most 16 year olds do not really care about politics, nothing motivates them to vote and even 18 year olds have low voter turnouts. The 16 year olds I know do not care about politics that much either.…
Not allowed to vote until 18; voting seems to trigger the brain to think long term about how that candidate is going to run “whatever”, since they’re going to be their long term…
The youth aged 13 to 24 in this country are apart of a generation that has no vivid memories of the challenging times of when becoming infected with HIV led to the inevitable outcome of death. But instead live in a world were the cases of HIV increase each year due to effective medical treatment. However, in 2010 those aged 13 to 24 had an estimated 12,200 incidences accounting for 26 percent of all incidences in the United States.1 Disparities are felt mostly among sexual and race/minority groups. The disparities felt among these groups are then intensified when placed upon the youth. It is known that the burden of HIV has been over proportionally placed upon the same groups that feel disparities within the United States, gay, bisexual, and…
As Americans we sure do love our freedom. We want a say in everything, especially…

Oh sixteen. That magical age that we fervently look forward to, imagining the the new found freedoms that are to greet us..The age of going to parties every friday, driving our friends around in a shiny new Toyota Prius, and finally having our parents not breathing down our necks every second. There are so many responsibilities and freedoms that are given when one turns 16, but there is on crucial power that we are not entrusted with. The vote. While many countries around the world have lowered their voting age, Canada remains a country that has not. Teenage suffrage is a controversial issue that has created many a debate throughout the years. Both adults and students remain divided in their opinions on the voting age.But when deeply considering this issue, it is easy to see that lowering the vote can make a positive impact on Canada by…
Any eighteen year old is able to vote for said leader of the country even if they don't factor in certain the effects a leader would have on the economy. I know people don’t always think through decisions and most teenagers don’t known which campaign really adheres to their lifestyle yet.…
Americans pride themselves over living in a representative democracy, a republic in which citizens have an influence on the government. A democracy entails ...Citizens are able to influence the government by electing representatives they believe would best embody their beliefs. Voting in the United States has not always been a right granted to all citizens. Historically, white men of elite status were the only ones allowed ability to vote. however, with the ratification with amendments such as: the Fifteenth Amendments which provided African-Americans the right to vote, the Nineteenth Amendment which granted women’s suffrage, and the Twenty-Sixth lowered the voting to eighteen years old to previously twenty on years of age. Through these…
I believe that making voting legally required by everyone over 18 is a bad idea because of the immaturity of some voters. If the repercussions of not voting were large enough these people wouldn’t learn about the people running for office or their policies, they would vote for anyone. As we discussed in class many people vote for the first name they see on the ballot, which is in alphabetical order, knowing nothing about the person or their policies. This could in turn get many people elected into office that wouldn’t have been elected if voting wasn’t required. This would also be an unfair advantage for the person with their name at the beginning of the ballot. They wouldn’t even have to campaign themselves, because they know that people will vote the first name that they see.…
The very idea of America is freedom and opportunity for everybody. Amongst these is the most valued legal right within a democracy: the right to vote. However, an unfortunate reality is that the majority of the people ages 16-17 cannot ("Age and Sex Composition in the United States: 2011"). With the ever falling number of participants in political votes due to the event of the generation of the baby boomers dying out, and the lack of political interest in the younger age groups (18-29). The legal voting age should be reduced to16 years of age, nationwide and it should be adopted amongst the amendments.…
The introduction of school councils and groups has led not only to a healthy student voice but it has also become a tool for shaping young people’s minds for voting in the future. Such councils can be a barrier to effective participation of the young people. Young people today are more informed and civic-minded than before and student organizations provide opportunities for many opinions and various political interests on campus. Students participate in a wide-ranging program including in forums, study groups and conferences. But where the young lack is the the mindset and maturity to see the right perspective.…
The law of nature urges survival of the fittest . May be. May be so .but the same thing relates to the cadets over here. Those who dive into NDA are considered to be the fittest, while the rest remains unsound. Yes, they are unsound but to be more precise they may even be the unsung heroes.…
