Technology Change In Anthem
How does one live?
“They whisper many strange things, of the towers which rose to the sky, in those Unmentionable Times, and of the wagons which moved without horses, and of the lights which burned without flame”(19). They speak of old but new nature of science and technology. They try to forget about all the great things that were in the Unmentionable Times. The events in anthem establish a slow progress of science and technology in totalitarian societies because everyone was told they must be equal, cannot be smart, and cannot express themselves. With anthem being technologically primitive it will never be able to improve the nature of science and technology. The technological progress in anthem is moving slowly but surely. It hasn't moved since before the Unmentionable Times for reasons like everyone has to be equal. This means nobody can be different and try to change the things in anthem to chess technology. “ We are one in all and all in one. According to the quote “We have given you a name in our thoughts, Liberty 5-3000”(55). The following quote shows that people in anthem are not even allowed to pick there own name. Without letting the people to express themselves, the technology and science will never be able to change or improve because people won't be able to claim and think of great ideas to change the technology. The council does not allow people to express themselves because every brother must be equal. Equality thinks different and whenever he leaves Anthem and goes into the uncharted forest he decides to change his name to Prometheus. Again Equality was a step closer to improving technology and science in Anthem because he was entirely different from his
