Equality 7-2521 Research Paper
Anthem a book by Ayn Rand contains an ultramodern collectivist dictatorship world with no such entity as an individual “only the great WE.” A person that wanted to be identical to all else in his world, but isn’t, is Equality 7-2521. The reason that Prometheus’ (before known as Equality 7-2521) victory to come to be free of the collectivist was possible because he had meaning, joy, and spirit with him and he lived as an individual long before he discovers the concept of individualism. Looking at the bigger picture it is clear to Equality was already an individual beforehand. With this in mind, according to all Equality’s Brothers “we were born with a curse [Equality 7-2521 has a different mindset than his brothers]. It has driven us to thoughts …show more content…
In the book anthem,” We Equality 7-2521, have discovered a new power of nature. And we have discovered it alone, and we are alone to know it” (Rand 52). As can be seen Equality 7-2521 loves and is proud of the science he does, even if he just knows about it alone. As a result of Equality loving science, he figured out how to make light without fire” our discovery is too great for us to waste our time in sweeping the streets. In a month, the World Council of scholars is to meet in our city… we shall go to this council and we shall lay before them, as our gift, the glass box with the power of the sky” (Rand 60-61). Even though equality knows the consequences, he went through with showing his discovery to the council because he felt the city needed this. Prometheus had and independent way of thinking and had an independent spirit that had carried him to make his decision and in the end freed …show more content…
During his childhood Equality 7-2521 was taught that preference is forbidden, and he says “…our curse broke our will. We are guilty, and we confess it here: we are guilty of the great transgression of preference.” (Rand 22) As a result Equality has an independent way of thinking and doesn’t think it is right but wants his way. Presently “… as we look back upon our life, we see that it has ever been thus and that it has brought us step by step to our last, supreme transgression, our crime of crimes hidden here under the ground” (Rand 20). Under those circumstances Equality 7-2521 knew that he was different just didn’t know what it was

Equality 7-2521 strongly resembles the Greek mythological creature, Prometheus, in many ways. They both are very different from their people. Prometheus was a titan who was nothing like the other titans. He fought to defeat his brothers so that the gods could rule. Likewise, Equality is obviously nothing like the people of his society as he was told earlier in the book. “‘There is evil -in your bones, Equality 7-2521, for your body has grown beyond the bodies of your brothers.’”* Prometheus is especially known for introducing fire to mankind, just as Equality planned to revolutionize the world with his light bulb. But when he introduced it to the Council, they denied it. In fact they were scared of his light. Another obvious similar characteristic the two share is their will to sacrifice anything for their beliefs. Prometheus knew he would be punished for stealing the fire from Zeus, but still refused to keep it away from mankind. “…and he suffered for his deed.”* For his punishment, Zeus chained him to a rock and sent a bird to eat his liver. Every day his liver would grow back, so every day the bird returned for his meal. This punishment was meant for eternity. Equality also knew over his long term research that he would be punished severely if anyone found him, but still did not stop in his…

    2. This world/society that Equality 7-2521 is living in seems to be based on the idea that all men are brothers and therefore must be alike. The problem with this ideology is that it leaves no room for individuality or creativity. It has become exceedingly frustrating for me as a reader to comprehend the story when the character is constantly calling himself we and giving shared ownership to thoughts and objects that are his alone. In my mind…

Though often discouraged in today's society, a little selfish thinking can really promote a lot of growth towards a certain goal in someone's life. With Prometheus, the more that he began to go down into his subway tunnel/lab, the more he began to think for himself and the more he began to discover how things around him in nature worked. He also began to realize how the setup of his society was actually holding back their people from making certain key discoveries that could advance their technological state tremendously. It was almost as if the people living in Prometheus' own home were being controlled by the government, left in a position where they could not advance without some independent thinking (which was, of course, illegal). It was almost as if the people in that area were slaves to the leaders of their city. The speaker of "The Soul of an Individualist" starts to discuss how a person that lives to serve others can be most easily compared to a slave. A slave is someone who lived to do physical work for his master; and someone who believes that every thought in their mind should be of and for others are just the same: slaves to mankind in spirit. Prometheus does not agree with this current setup, and his egoism helps him to begin to see the error of the government's…

In today’s society, denouncing a leader is more common than it used to be as we see in today's politics and everyday life. By denouncing a leader, society critiques them because they do not think of them as humans with the right policies or beliefs. However, every human on earth thinks differently and sees life from a different viewpoint, making everyone discrete. As a result of criticising a leader, a person is simply stating what they think by censuring their leaders who they do not see eye-to-eye with. Equality 7-2521 reviles the leaders in his community, but not directly to their faces. But is it wrong to reject your commanders in chief, or is it right? Should men and women be able to state why they think their leaders are wrongdoers or…
