For example, when George and Lennie meet their soon to be boss George tells Lennie not to say a word. This chapter has a multiple feelings caused by the presence of two characters on the ranch, which are Curley and his wife. While George can see the problems that may happen, Lennie can feel the frustrating atmosphere. For example, after Curly indicates the size of Lennie as a big guy but lacking in intelligence, he makes it a point to single out Lennie as someone who should speak when spoken to. Lennie then knows the intensity, and sees Curley as a bully. When Lennie realizes what he can physically do, then he will…

" "˜I turns to Lennie and says, "˜Jump in.' An' he jumps. Couldn't swim a stroke. He damn near drowned before we could get him.' " (p. 44) Not only is Lennie unable to understand the meaning of importance, he has no memory of important assertions if they do not directly pertain to rabbits. He cannot even remember his Aunt Clara, who took him in as a baby, and he lived with until she passed away. In order for Lennie to conceptualize and remember ideas or instructions, he must repeatedly recite them to George; even this ritual will not insure a recollection of the information. Although Lennie's poor memory is a severe problem, his ultimate drawback, is his unacceptable behavior. Although unintentional, Lennie causes harm, and…

First, Lennie is a very stupid man, so stupid that he could be mistaken for the mentally retarded. He walks aimlessly with George for miles and miles before knowing where he is going. "Where we goin', George?"(Pg 4) asks Lennie after they have walked for nearly a day. Also lennie feels the need to pet a dead mouse while they are walking, which can only be described as childish and primitive. "Uh-uh jus' a dead mouse, George I didn't kill it. Honest! I found it. I found it dead."(Pg. 5) pleads Lennie.…

"An’ haverabbits. Go on, George! Tell about what we’re gonna have in the garden and about the rabbits in the cages and about the rain in the winter and the stove, and how thick the cream is on the milk like you can hardly cut it. How I get to tend the rabbits."Well," said George, "we’ll have a big vegetable patch and a rabbit hutch and chickens. And when it rains in the winter, we’ll just say the hell with goin’ to work, and we’ll build up a fire in the stove and set around it an’ listen to the rain comin’ down on the roof—Nuts!"(Steinback 119-120). George has always dreamed about owning his own ranch and being his own boss and doing what he wants when he wants, ‘“We’d just do her,” George said, “We wouldn’t ask nobody if we could. Jus’ say, ‘we’ll go to her an’ we would.”’ It shows that they wouldn’t have to answer to anyone but themselves and if they wanted to do something they would and nobody would tell them otherwise.…
