Tale Of Two Cities Sydney Carton Quotes
A Tale of Two Cities: Character Analysis

In Tale of Two Cities the character I chose to do is Sydney Carton. People change all the time even if it’s just simple petty stuff like: having a new favorite color, or not liking that favorite food of yours anymore. We’re constantly changing and Sydney Carton has some petty and some major changes in the book. In one part of the book he develops into a tragic, romantic hero. Towards the beginning of the book he is portrayed as a mess-up or a low life with a drinking problem. Once you’re almost to the end of the book you see he’s a good hearted man with a Christ–like attitude. In the beginning of the book Sydney acts like a very arrogant and frustrated man with a drinking problem. Many times in the book he starts drinking so much that he’s on the verge of being drunk or actually is drunk. Most of the time in the book Sydney usually has some type of alcoholic beverage in his hand. In the book it’s giving you the allusion that Sydney having alcohol in his hand helps him keep calm or composed in court, but actually it seems more like a necessity for Sydney. His drinking caused him to lose control of his mouth with Charles Darnay after the

He pours out all of his feelings to Lucie saying, “For you, and for any dear to you, I would do anything. I would embrace any sacrifice for you and for those dear to you. And when you see your own bright beauty springing up anew at your feet, think now and then that there is a man who would give his life, to keep a life you love beside you." It’s amazing that he had the guts to say this to her. He’s saying he will do anything for her. Lucie was one of the only people who believed there was a good person in Sydney, and was the only one that would take time to help him change into a better person. There is no doubt that she wasn’t successful. She turned Carton into a caring

Although Holden talks at length about what he dislikes about the society he does find comfort in things he believes are innocent which he feels need to protected. This is why he did not have sex with Sunny he saw her as vulnerable creature placed in a dangerous situation like the ducks he saw at the park in central park which is surrounded by the hazardous streets of New York City. This reminded of other people which he viewed weak as the ducks like Jane which was going on a date with Stradlater this in Holden's mind was a weak creature and her date was a potentially dangerous situation. In response, he told Stradlater to “ask her if she still keeps all her kings in the back row”(Salinger 39). Which was Holden's way to warn her to be on the…

The character I selected from Walk Two Moons was Sal . This character is important in the text because she is ornery and hopeful. This trait contributed to the novel, when she came back to her house and asked her dad about margaret her dad was happy but when he started to explain she cut him off because he said that mrs cadaver was not a murderer. In addition she is hopeful because she wants to bring her mom home from lewiston idaho. For example, she starts the car and drives from coeur d'alene to lewiston idaho.…

I feel that the character that changed the most throughout the story was Tally Youngblood. At the beginning of the book Tally thought the only important thing in her life was becoming pretty. On the night before her birthday Shay, her friend shares a secret with her, she doesn’t want to turn pretty, she wants to run away to a town called the Smoke. Tally is confused and upset with her friend and tells Shay that she cannot run away she has always wanted to turn pretty. On the day of her birthday Tally is told by Special Circumstances, a special group in New Pretty Town, she cannot turn pretty unless she finds where Shay ran away and turn her in. Tally agrees and is sent back to her town with a backpack full of supplies for her trip to find…

At the beginning, he reprimands his daughter for disobeying him and talking back to him. “ He called me selfish, and he asked if i hadn’t seen or heard what was happening to man-crazy whores like me… he pushed me against the wall for disrespecting him. he spat in my face” (pg 11). However, when the girl’s life is put on the line , her dad gives up everything he has to save her. “ he went to the post and paid them money, all the money he had. our house in port-au-prince and all the land his father had left him, he gave it all away to save my life” (pg 24). The way he he gave up all for his daughter demonstrates how he isn’t selfish and how he thinks about everyone else. This makes the reader appreciate their life because they probably wouldn’t have to lose everything they own to save someone in their…

Every book is riddled with characters. Normally they are not these morally rigid and unable to change. They are quite the opposite. It is common to see in novels characters changing drastically, particularly their values. They can go from being greedy to exceptionally generous and empathetic individuals, like in popular children stories like A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens or How the Grinch Stole Stole Christmas!…

He’s trying to justify his actions to a little kid, and he wants her approval, that’s why he’s trying to convince her. He tends to focus too much time on the negative and none on the positive. His little sister Phoebe challenged him to find one thing that he liked and he couldn’t and he couldn’t even do that. “You don’t like anything that’s happening’’ (220). “You can’t even think of one thing” (222). If you were someone who was confident and not insecure you wouldn’t need to prove yourself to a little kid. You would learn how to conquer your challenges by yourself one step at a time. Despite how good his relationship was with his little sister that was not how is relationship was all the other women in the book. Despite all these examples a side of him is shown that was not very expected. “I keep picturing thousands of little kids and nobody’s around them- I mean –except me. And I’m standing on the edge of a cliff. What I have to do, I have to catch everybody if they start to go over the cliff. That’s all I’d do all day. I ‘d be the catcher in the rye” (224). This quote shows that he is meant to be a protector and that’s why he treats his sister like that, because he is trying to protect her from the bad things and to give her an amazing childhood that he supposedly never…

Sydney Carton is the most dynamic character in A Tale of Two Cities. He is first a lazy, alcoholic lawyer who lacks even the slightest amount of interest in his own life. He describes himself as a complete waste of a life and takes every opportunity to declare that he cares for nothing; but one can sense from the initial chapters that Carton feels something that he perhaps cannot express. In his conversation with the recently acquitted Charles Darney, Carton 's comments about Lucie Manette, while extremely hateful and bitter, betray his interest and blossoming feelings about Lucie. Eventually, he reaches the point where he can admit his feelings to Lucie herself. Before Lucie is wed to Charles, Carton professes his love to her but still considers himself as worthless. This scene marks a vital transition for his character is the foundation for the sacrifice he makes at the end of the novel.…

Sydney Carton- Sydney Carton has the evil figure that truly has a good heart archetype. Although he is not a true villain, he feels he has no future for himself and is basically a bum. He is the most dynamic character in the story and throughout you can see him evolve. "It is a far, far better thing that I do, than I have ever done; it is a far, far better rest that I go to than I have ever known” (Dickens, 360) In the end he comes through for Lucie and Charles and commits an extremely noble act by sacrificing himself.…

The character that I identify with most would be Paul Rusesabagina. Paul Rusesabagina was the manager of a Rwandan hotel called the Milles Collines. He tells his story about the genocide in Rwanda during 1994. I picked Mr. Rusesabagina because it is his autobiography and he is telling the story. Also, it’s easy for me to see how the simply rules of being hospitable can save the day.…

The narrator expresses character development when he says: "I wanted to get out of the car and retch, I wanted to go home to my parents ' house and crawl into bed." He then says that he felt like he was about to cry when she asks if they wanted to do drugs with the girl and her friend. In the end he didn 't stay with the girls which was something he would have done if he truly was as "bad" as he thought himself to…
