Symbolized Item Research Paper
Since I was the youngest and the only girl in the family, I played by myself from time to time. When I played by myself, I would imagine that I was hosting my own cooking show. I would sit outside and collect materials like grass, rocks, large and small leafs, sand, water, and a stick. Each of the materials would symbolize an ingredient. For example the grass and leafs represented vegetables, the sand represented rice, the rocks represented meat, and the stick represented a cooking utensil. There wasn’t much logic behind each symbolized item because I didn’t know any better. After cooking the food, I gave it to my brothers so that they could taste my scrumptious

During and since the economic downturn Carter's revenues have steadily climbed. The company's 2011 net revenue rose more than 20% (or $2.1 billion) compared to 2010. Carter's contributes the noteworthy increase to a 13% boost in wholesale sales in the US due to an 8% increase in units shipped and a 5% increase in price per unit in 2011 vs. 2010. Additionally, the company logged a nearly 23% increase in retail sales in 2011 thanks to higher sales from new store openings, online sales, and comparable store sales. During the same reporting period, net income decreased some 22% for the manufacturer, attributed to a 15% increase in selling, general, and administrative (SG&A) expenses, including its purchase of Bonnie Togs. The company's bodysuits, pajamas, blanket sleepers, newborn gowns, bibs, towels, washcloths, and…

Food plays a fascinating role in the lives of both my climbing coach, Alex, and my Hebrew teacher Sarah. The strict compulsive preparation of kosher ("proper; fit") meals in Sarah's home is particularly mystifying. The Hebrew alphabet and holiday stories take a back seat to my chance to peek at the rich chaos of Sarah's ultra-orthodox kitchen. The complicated dietary laws aside (no shellfish; no pork; no mixing of meat and dairy), there are the ritual hand-washings before meals, the different prayers for each food group, and aftermeal prayers. Oy! It's a wonder I ever risked a Shabbos meal in Sarah's home, but the lure of matzoh-ball soup and fragrant noodle pudding was irresistible. Ironically,…

“Everyday Use” is told from the perspective of Mama and takes place deep in the South sometime around the 1960’s. It is about a hard-working mother and her two daughters Dee and Maggie, and how she had to give each of them different paths to follow in life. Dee is the older sister. These paths both demonstrate how their heritage plays a role in their everyday lives. These routes resulted in Maggie having a better relationship with Mama than Dee had with her.…

I always loved to cook, I remember how young I was when I started making pancakes and scrambled eggs in the morning. I would wake up early just to make breakfast for my family. The best satisfaction was to watch them enjoy my food and taste my creation that I made especially for them. At first I thought it was just a hobby that I loved to do here and there but as I became older I started to grow passion for the food culture. Although there were few times I had accidents in the kitchen like burning the food or even burning myself, I never gave up, on the other hand I would tell my grandmother to teach me some of her recipes and tips to better myself in the…
