Then I will review the current policies and establish better internal controls for each area of concern. Once these policies have been instituted by the LJB Company, they should be ready to proceed with their plan to go public.…

Welcome to Chemistry 226, your first semester of organic chemistry! Prepare to be amazed as you develop an entirely new capacity of complex scientific problem solving. This course is a fastpaced, action-packed depiction of structure and reactivity of organic molecules. While your chemistry education to date probably has largely overlapped with some biology and physics lectures, organic chemistry is like a unique and beautiful snowflake, arguably unlike any scientific course you have ever had. Do not fear. John Donne penned the famous words, “No man is an island,” and those words will be my governing teaching philosophy in this course. When you enter my classroom, you are entering a collaborative learning environment predicated on mutual respect for our collective learning experience. I believe that it is through not only passive reading and writing but also active speaking and listening that we develop and refine the skills needed to solve the problems posed. I encourage you to prepare for our lectures so that you can maximally benefit from our interactive real time dissection of problems. At the same time, in this mutual collaboration, I hope to benefit from your feedback throughout the course. Please let me know what is working and what is confusing so that together we improve this course.…

Yann Martel was born in Salamanca, Spain, on June 25, 1963. His parents, both Canadian, served in the Canadian Foreign Services; consequently, the family traveled widely during Martel’s childhood. He studied philosophy at Trent University in Ontario, Canada, graduating in 1985. Martel worked a number of odd jobs to support himself while writing fiction. His first book, a collection of short stories called The Facts Behind the Helsinki Roccamatios, was published in 1993. His first novel, Self, followed in 1996. Like “the author” who narrates Life of Pi, Martel did not achieve much commercial or critical success with either of his earlier books. Life of Pi, on the other hand, became a bestseller upon publication in 2001. It has been translated into more than forty languages and has won several prestigious awards, including the Hugh MacLennan Prize for Fiction, the Man Booker Prize, and the French Le Combat de Livres. The film version directed by Ang Lee premiered in 2012, garnering eleven Academy Award nominations and winning in four categories, including Best Director.…

Percents, points letters, averages. What do all of these have in common? They all are different factors that deal with grading high school students. The school board in Fort Wayne Community School system introduced a new grading policy for all the high schools in the district. They got rid of a traditional zero to 100 scale. This 2012-2013 school year we operate on a twelve point system. I believe that the new grading scale is causing more problems for students instead of helping them.…

"The society in which we live in has been so profoundly affected by computers that historians refer to the present time as the information age." (Presley, 16) Comments like this show how computers have changed how we live, work, and play. For example, combined with the Internet, computers have incorporated many forms of communications into a universal one. The computer's role in the world continues to grow in importance even as we sometimes take it for granted. We must realize how greatly computers have affected our lives. Computers have become such an integral part of our lives because we rely on them for numerical calculations, storage of data, communication, and technological processes.…
