Suspense In The Tell-Tale Heart By Edgar Allan Poe

Many authors have a different approach to creating suspense in their writing. In this essay I will be using examples to show this using 2 different short stories from 2 different authors. In the short story ¨The Tell-Tale Heart ¨ by Edgar Allan Poe, he uses many different techniques in his plot to get the readers on the edge of their seat. One way he creates suspense is by using repetition. He repeats certain phrases, such as ¨I moved it slowly- very, very slowly, so that I might not disturb the old man's sleep¨. This creates tension for the audience because it creates a certain tension when imagining the scene in your mind.
