The first three habits focus on obtaining private victory, or making change within yourself, to achieve independence from dependence. The first habit to begin this transition is to be proactive. Highly effective people do not resign to the fact that there is nothing they can do about a problem or situation. Effective people institute change with what they have the power to influence, and they feel that they can influence almost everything.…

According to John Dewey, Habits are inevitable. We are empowered by both good and bad habits. In his essay, “Habits and Will”, Dewey states that we envision bad habits as such acts of “foolish idling, gambling, addiction to liquor and drugs”, and we associate good habits with skills such as walking, playing a musical instrument, and typing. We see bad habits as desires and good habits as abilities that “exist far from our impulsive desires”. Bad habits are not deliberately formed and are also hard to break. Dewey explains that will power alone is not enough; one must follow a specific method to turn habits around. I feel that I, someone who tends to get distracted easily and procrastinate, should benefit from Dewey’s habit-breaking method.…
Lastly is my third change, which is to focus on one thing at a time. I'll do this because it'll make doing homework projects and etc. easier for me and not overwhelming as much. Overwhelming myself it's pretty easy so what I'll do is one I'll take out one subject at a time preferably an order of my classes. I also know that if I'm not well organized things will get messy and things will be wrong. So to keep that from happening I'll put away or turn off all distracting things.…
We all have habits and habits have a big impact on what we do in our lives each day. There are many good habits and there are many bad habits. Habits form from a psychological pattern called habit loop that control’s all of your habits. Most habits happen without us even knowing they are happening. In "How Habits Work" by Charles Duhigg he states that there are four ways you can change a habit. To change a habit, you have to identify the routine, experiment the habit with rewards, isolate the cue, and have a plan. By following these four simple steps you will be able to change your good or bad habits without much difficulties.…
Such as creating a plan of the day to solve time management. This way your able to get all of your duty's done in a timely fashion before the deadline. Knowing what is the expectation that you are needed to meet. and when struggling don't be afraid to ask questions. These simple concepts can make a situation feels like is caving in around you, to something that you know you can and will get done. No longer worrying about every minute of every day trying to find time in what has to get done versus what you want to get done. Always create a list of priority and know exactly what needs to be…
1. Make To-Do Lists. Last school year, I've started to make lists. I write down things I need to accomplish and I try to prioritize by how important they are.…
I am also very organized now with my acordian folder keeping everything in the right place, and always having the work and getting it in on time.…
MY first strategy I think is very useful for my college career is one of my own “Setting Priorities”. Setting priorities is as clear as it sounds. This is useful for someone who seems to slack off in urgencies, and give in to less important concerns. For example I would have school, work, and soccer as my main priorities, but I would get distracted playing video games. I than set certain amount of time for my main priorities each week making it a schedule. I would set for school double the amount of class time as homework/studying time off the class. As work goes, it is the same weekly schedule which coordinates with my class meetings. For soccer I would train three times a week two hours a day. I set the time for my training after I’m done or on a break from my school work, and regular work. So after setting my priorities to a schedule I know what my other less urgent concerns are, such as video games, surfing the internet, hanging out a lot with friends. This strategy has helped me set my life to limit on certain things to accomplish and remember what my goals are. For instance, a day I was tired from work and did not want to go to train and started to play video games. One hour into it I realized that I was wasting my time on video games, when I could’ve been training for soccer, trying to accomplish my goal to make the 4 time…
Quizzes: Coming into college, I had very poor study habits. That quickly changed after being assigned the weekly quizzes. The quizzes were quite demanding due to time restraints and the critical thinking involved with each question. Therefore, instead of skimming over the definitions as I would normally do, I was forced to thoroughly read and understand the material. I preferred the group quizzes to the personal quizzes. With more brainpower, we always scored well and it helped improve my grade. I chose my group wisely and everyone contributed, but those that do not read could easily take advantage of the group quizzes. The biggest obstacles to the quizzes were the time restraints, the critical thinking involved, and the fact that there was a group quiz every class, meaning missing a class would harm your grade.…
Luckily, in the beginning of this change I informed all of my family, friends, and boyfriend that I seriously needed to get myself together and become organized, I asked for their support. Once they recognized I wasn’t completing my task, they immediately began to help guide me into the right direction by reminding me and telling me no whenever I wanted to procrastinate and socialize. This support really helped push me into the right direction and I’m glad it happened. Finally, I began to start getting motivated and constantly checking the calendar to ensure I was doing what I needed to do. After a while I started to get the hang of things. I no longer needed to check the calendar, I automatically knew what was important and what could wait while managing when to socialize at the right time. I was, and still am, very proud of myself for declaring I seek organization and accomplishing it.…
This semester was extremely challenging for me, and there were a lot of factors that contributed to my inability to study as hard as I know I am cable of. Had my first child this year, was abandoned by my son’s father to raise my son by myself. To make matters worse, I had some medical complications with my health. I was diagnosed with a Pulmonary Embolism. This news was devastating to me. I was hospitalize for a long time and was so depressed. With all of my problems at hand I had to go to work and work 40 hours a week just so I could support me and my son. With all of these devastating experiences in my life, studying seemed impossible to accomplish the way I wanted to. I was constantly in and out of the hospital, worried about my health and trying to get well. Today I am still recovering and believing that God will bring me peace and happiness in me and my son’s life.…
There is proverb which says that we can tell how successful a person is by watching what he does during his spare time. I once was such kind of guy with no planning, so during weekends or holidays I always felt so boring and have nothing to do and just do what attracted my attention temporarily. Even during the school hours, I needed to spent several time figuring out what I should study next and other things I should do, thus wasting a lot time in rethinking for that day’s objective and rescheduling for that day. But now, I have formed a habit of planning. A plan reminds me the task I should accomplish everyday in a timely order, and the only thing I need to do is to just take a look at it and absorb myself in the next task immediately. So compared with no planning at all, it saves me some time that cannot be neglected.…
To be successful on a final exam but ultimately in a class the first thing you must do is attend class. It is important you attend class so that you don’t miss out on anything important. The class time you spend listening to your instructor is one of the most essential ways of retaining information on the subject you’re going over. I’m not saying you must attend every single class in a semester but try your hardest to. If for some reason you do miss class, the next step you would follow is to be sure to get anything you’ve missed from a classmate. I never have an issue when it comes to getting information off classmates because you’ll find that everyone needs a friend in a class one day.…
