Program Activities The program will have a workshop format to be located physically in WCTC’s School of Health. This format places an emphasis on the hygienist’s ability to apply the learned knowledge to the real-life practice of smoking cessation patient counseling (Caffarella & Daffron, 2013, p. 263). Hygienists are required to complete twelve credits of CE every two year period and of those credits, four are mandated as sterilization and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) (Wis. Admin. Code DE. § 13.02 (4), 2012). Considering this the workshop will award hygienists eight CE credits, and meet for two hours in the evenings for four weeks. The workshop will not be scheduled on federal holidays, weekends, or after 9:00 p.m.

The activities will include lecture, group discussion, debate, critical thinking, hands-on experience, case study and reflective analysis, PowerPoint and video presentation, research, and group concept map development. The activities will be chosen to change the smoking cession counseling practice of the hygienists as aforementioned program objectives. Hands-on activities involving cessation aids will provide the hygienist with experience of aids and allow them to gain knowledge and understanding of the aids (Ateş & Eryılmaz, 2011, para. 2). Group learning activities will be used to, “develop interpersonal an intrapersonal intelligences” (Kezar, 2001, p. 148). The activities will be chosen to attend to all learner styles/preferences as sensing and intuitive. The hands-on activity, lecture, and PowerPoint presentation will appeal to the sensing learners (Abidin, Rezaee, Abdullah & Singh, 2011, p.144). The intuitive learners who tend to be abstract and imaginative will enjoy the concept map, essay, and debate activities (Abidin, et al., 2011, p.144). The workshop information will be
