LeBron James is arguably the greatest player to ever touch a basketball, and everything you want and need to know about him is in the book “LeBron James: A Biography”. Lew H. Freedman, the author, talks about his whole life, from his childhood to the day he became a pro in the NBA. He also talks about some of the struggles LeBron had during his road to stardom, and all of the historic achievements he earned. This biography focuses on the key events in LeBron’s life during his dizzying rise to fame in high school to his emergence as the first overall pick in the NBA draft at 18 years old. In the biography Freedman uses little ethical appeal (ethos), but has a lot of emotional appeal (pathos) and appeal to logic (logos). He uses pathos when he starts talking about LeBron’s childhood and the struggles he had to endure. It brings out an emotion that invokes sympathy for him. Most of the book uses appeal to logic; the statistics he uses are reliable and proven to be factual because of the evidence. Small sections of the biography has ethos in it, mostly irrelevant to the book.…

People recognise Lebron James as not only a legendary basketball player, but also an expert wordsmith. As Lebron left his home of Cleveland with the promise of fame and fortune in the land of the Miami Heat, he betrayed his hometown. Many expressed outrage about his betrayal and found themselves offended by his very name. People met the sudden switch from Miami and back to Cleveland with much anger and controversy from both cities. People threw rumors and hateful words his way. Surrounded by all of the anger, Lebron released a beautifully crafted essay using strong rhetoric to shield himself from the blows. After this essay was released, those who had assaulted him began to follow and to support his decision. Many find it difficult to win the hearts of those who feel wronged. Yet with careful diction and presumably honest emotions and truths, it can be done. Lebron did just that.…

I will be writing about Jimmy Butler a professional basketball player who turned from being homeless to an NBA All-Star. Born Jimmy Butler III on September 14, 1989. In Houston, Texas. Butlers father stepped away from the family while he was still an infant. Meaning Jimmy would grow up with no father to give him well needed talks about the understanding of life. At the young age of 13 Butler's mother forced him out of the house. As remembered by Butler in a 2011 interview, she said to him, “ I don't like the view of you. You gotta leave.” Jimmy then remembers thinking,”Where am I gonna go to stay and sleep?” Jimmy a thirteen year old now having to fend for himself, bounced from home to home. Friends house to friend's house.…

Upon hearing that this topic was about heroes, my mind became flooded with ideas and concepts. Family members, historical figures and celebrities had all come to mind. However, this person was the first name that came to mind. This man, depending on your prospective, is either a hero or a villain. To many, he and his qualities are basically the definition of a hero. He has a no-quit attitude, a passion, and a fire in his heart. He has the heart and soul of a true warrior and champion. He has never run, he has fought through the down times, the lows, to achieve greatness, and reach those highs, those great moments. This man is a rare find in this world, nobody will ever be like him. He has a killer instinct, or “Mamba Mentality”, and that is…

This is an interesting year in the NBA because there are plenty of notable names that will be free agents at the end of the season. The summer could bring on the ultimate game of musical chairs for players, swapping teams for more lucrative contracts and a better chance at winning a championship. Of all the free agents, LeBron James has probably been the most talked about when it comes to 2010 restricted free agency. There has been plenty of speculation about the teams he will go to next year if he decides to leave Cleveland. After a loss tonight in game 6 of the Eastern Conference semi-finals, the talk has already begun to escalate as LeBron’s decision becomes more imminent. For that reason I choose to evaluate LeBron’s post-game press conference from the game 6 loss to the Celtics. It is not the typical press conference because of the aforementioned free agency. Moreover, it is an opportunity for him to talk to the fans of Cleveland, and almost apologize for not living up to this year’s expectations. It is also different from the typical press conference because there is some persuading on James’ part. Convincing the reporters in the room, and consequently the people paying attention to the situation, that he has not given any thought to what team he going sign with in the off season.…

With his abilities he was given a scholarship to a private New York high school, that not only helped him receive the best education, but by being in a higher class of people they made him more noticeable. He then went on to hold records in New York and led his team to championships. Climbing the layers of society, coming from a low background the community and society, influenced him to reach higher, which lead to the realization of education being able to help reach that goal. Finally, with the help of education, it helped him realize his basketball abilities, that soon lead him into the National Basketball Association, where they pay big money for some of the best basketballs players in the world. Now Kareem has changed the game, he went from being influenced by his communities, to become a better person and go up the levels of society, to him himself becoming a very highly influential basketball player. Dwyane grew up in the south side of Chicago near the Projects. His neighborhood was full of crime, drugs, and gangs. His mother and father divorced, and his mother started using and dealing drugs. She had multiple boyfriends over and they were abusive. She always got high, rarely paid the bills, but still loved Dwyane. Another very important date in Dwyane’s life was when his favorite and closest sister Tragil tricked him that they were going to see a movie. But she really dropped Dwyane off at his Dad’s house to live a more stable life. Dwyane’s dad had remarried and had a stable job. He paid all the bills and had two sons to keep Dwyane company. The article I have chosen is about LeBron James giving back to the community of Akron. He wants to decrease the dropout rate of students in school by motivating them to stay in school and study. The Akron school area has a dropout rate of 24 percent which is a lot of students giving up on their life and potentially becoming nothing. When LeBron launched this program called Wheels for Education he talked to 342 third graders because it is known for students to start giving up on school in third grade. LeBron spent some time with these young kids and the dropout rate decreased and over 92 percent of those students ended up finishing high school with a diploma. LeBron went through the same difficulties in his time as a high school student that is why he is trying to help these kids that are facing the same problem as him. LeBron himself now is a very accomplished citizen. He plays professional basketball for the Miami Heat and has won MVP and a NBA championship ring as well. LeBron has got two gold medals from the Olympics as well. He is a very outstanding player. The kids look at him like a remodel which is very great that he does what he does and gives back to the community by enforcing that studying is the key to success for the kids in Akron.…
