Summary Of A Quilt Of A Country And The Immigrant Contribution
Many countries look at the United States and wonder how our society works so well together. In the two articles, “A Quilt of a Country” and “The Immigrant Contribution” they both talk about how our country was built a lot off of immigrants and what different things they brought over here. The readings had some differences and similarities in what they talked about, but it was mainly composed of the topic of immigration. Immigrants really changed America and in multiple ways, which we are granted for.

Starting off with similarities, there are quite a few to choose from. B oth of the readings were very similar, the biggest reason is immigrants and diversity. Like in the statements “One of the… Chester Avenues” (Quindlen 15), and “The opportunities… a good many” (Kennedy 27), both talk about how immigrants were able to come to the United States for

However the do have some differences. Like how in the A Quilt of a Country, they state that America is referred to as a quilt. Trying to say that people are always interacting from different countries and cultures. But in The Quilt of a Country, i see it as more of a “in the moment” type of story. As opposed to the Immigrant contribution. Where i see it as more of a in the past type of story. “In this area of religion, all the major American faiths were brought to this country from abroad” (Kennedy 26). This shows how the cultures today aren't happening for the first time, they were brought over long ago and have interwoven in our society. “The New York of my children is no more balkanized, probably less so, than Philadelphia of my father, In which Jewish boys would walk several blocks to avoid the Irish Divide of Chester Avenue” (Quindlen 14). This shows, today there are many conflicts between societies even now. Like Trump wants all the Mexicans out and that's a conflict between Americans and Mexicans. Therefore there is still
