In this scholarly article, Haden introduces his views on the exploitation and unfair compensation of student-athletes by the NCAA. Student-athletes receive absolutely no monetary compensation whatsoever; Hayden proposes a solution to this issue. Haden makes an excellent case stating, “each division I university incorporate “laundry money” into the scholarships of all their student-athletes” (680). The article explains that the best way to compensate student-athletes is to incorporate the use of laundry money into the student-athletes scholarship packages. By doing so, there are not any complications with NCAA rules and regulations therefore, making his article extremely beneficial to my topic. Haden’s views and proposed solution is very helpful for my topic because it has not appeared in any other text I have read. For this reason, he has helped me better understand my issue while also supporting the idea that student-athletes should be compensated for all of their time and effort dedicated to the…

At the Gym, written by Mark Doty; has no relation with being at the gym at all; metaphorically speaking it pertains to attending church. The narrative provided is from the author's observation of other people in the church. The primary metaphor of this poem is religiously based in the sense people have determination to release their burdens with the desire of overcoming tribulations through prayer. Many smaller metaphors inside the poem leading the reader to believe there is faith veiled throughout. This metaphor is explained in this essay by many other small metaphors; Salt-stain is really tears, the vinyl is from the pews/benches in the church. How this metaphor references something manmade, the association of grief emotions in this poem such as hopelessness and despair. While more positive emotions of relief and hope are set forth; leading one to happiness. Many hidden religious aspects contained throughout the poem are brought to light.…

Schools should encourage students to keep their dialects throughout the school development because it gives them a better sense of belonging and acceptance within their peers. It is crucial for students to feel accepted while learning because their skills can be the main focus in schools rather than trying to change their dialects to meet standards. As for writing, it should e rather similar because it would not be in the favor for every single teacher or professor to go out and learn as many dialects as they can, just to make a few students feel like they belong. As I have previously mentioned, the feeling like one fits in an environment can make the difference in their education and how well or not they learn. The dialects that teachers should focus on getting used to are the most common ones. These include, but not limited to Spanish, Chinese, and French. More problems have to be addressed when exposing teachers to more languages. These include the different dialect within those languages, and of course it will be too much to…

Throughout my writing career, I have observed several aspects with the potential to shape any writer’s success. Among the elements, the most influential of them is the English course in which the student enrolls. Moreover, English courses hold influence over a student’s life in that they have a responsibility to either advance or reduce the writer’s skills. The progress in my writing development began when English II guided me through noticing worth in my writing, finding pride in a strength, and appreciating positive aspects of the course.…
