QUIZZES: 120 Points There will be daily quizzes. The lowest two scores will be dropped. There are no make-up quizzes. Quizzes have two purposes. 1. Quizzes are to encourage class attendance. Current quiz questions come from information already discussed in class. 2. Quizzes give students experience with the type of questions that you will see on a mid-term.

Exams: 400 points I have scheduled four mid-term examinations. Each will cover only the material since the last exam. Each is worth 100 points.

6 of the 10 sections of Introductory Psychology were given the chance of extra credit if they took their quizzes within the first five days. 2 or 3 questions from lecture or class demonstration. Participants were 270 students during the fall semester of 2005, 163 students were offered extra credit (incentive group) and 107 students were not offered extra credit (no incentive group). Many teachers pulled questions from a shared database covering the textbook readings. The quizzes were 60% multiple choice and 40% fill in the blank and short answer. The highest score a student could get was a 25 points for each quiz. Students took the quizzes on their own time in a computer lab on campus. Each quiz was available for 10 days except for quiz 3 which was available for 9 days due to holidays. For the student to take the quiz they had to show a picture ID and enter their user name and password. The quizzes were protected by a password so students could not access the quizzes from home. Not all students stayed to receive feedback on their quizzes. Master…

After reading an assignment for class, I find that having a set of questions based on the reading assignment helps ensure my understanding of that which I’ve just read. The questions assigned allow me to have an opportunity to review the material and give extra thought to the topic which is being talked about. This tends to help me understand the information better. It also helps me remember the important words and their definitions as opposed to only reading the material assigned and hoping that I remember what was read without any further thought process.…

    (3) In this particular lesson, I started off with a quiz as a recap session. This quiz was a little competition between students in the classroom. The purpose of this quiz was to get the students excited about recalling facts learnt previously. Clues were given when students got stuck, refreshing their memories. Questions ranged from which town Jack the Ripper was from to what the class thought his motives for murder were. The children responded well and were able to recall much information from the previous lesson. This I found allowed smooth integration into the next lesson. Obviously a quiz can not be done every lesson but it is a good idea to do recall sessions at the beginning of lessons to refresh student’s memories.…
