Streetcar Named Desire
A streetcar named desire is a heartbreaking story about blanche DuBois. Blanche is a woman in her 30s. She was a highclass lady who's class is now fading and so is her beauty. She tries to hide from artificial light as much as she can. You see light in the stage direction. You also see music in the stage direction. Music is very important because it describes the mood. Light and music in
Streetcar named desire assembles it to be more dramatic while adding depth to the characters.
You see in the very beginning of the play how the stage direction says she must avoid Light. "Her delicate beauty must avoid a strong
Light"(Tennessee William 5). She must avoid the light because it shows her real age. She tells everyone she is in her late 20s. She really is in her
30s. She is always seem trying to stay high class. So because of that she tried her hardest to avoid artificial light. Light also shows a very mysterious and dark side about her. In scene
3 there are men playing poker, and Blanche goes up near the window and starts removing her clothes in a streak of light. "she takes off the blouse and stands in her pink silk brasserie and white skirt in the light through the portieres"( Tennessee Williams). There is nothing normal about what she is doing. It is mysterious because she is a high class person. Later in the play you also learn that see would sleep with men for money.

An illusion is something that deceives by producing a false or misleading impression of reality. In Tennessee William's A Streetcar Named Desire, characters such as Blanche Dubois, Harold Mitchell (Mitch), and Stella Kowalski often use illusion in an attempt to escape reality. Blanche Dubois is a woman who uses fantasy in order to protect herself from her own fears and the undesirable circumstances which occur in her life. Mitch uses illusion by regarding Blanche as the perfect woman in order to escape her lies and false reality. Stella uses illusion to make it seem as though she has a happy marriage in order to make her life and the abuse from Stanley bearable.…

The loss of identity is an oft-discussed subject in literature. A character's tie or affiliation to a defined identity in a piece has the tendency to illustrate how the archetype of the character functions in society as a whole. In A Streetcar Named Desire by Tennessee Williams, the symbolic death of the aristocratic Southern lifestyle of grandeur serves as a notion that illuminates on the meaning of the piece. Comparing and contrasting characters such as Blanche DuBois, a typical Southern belle who is struggling to hold onto the dreams and mannerisms of the Old south and refusing to face of the reality of it all being over, and Stanley Kowalski, a working class brute who is representative of the emerging blue collar demographic in the newly industrious South, Williams uses the figurative death of America’s Old South to exemplify how the South is experiencing a demographic and cultural shift and how the notion of the Old South will soon be rendered meaningless. In displaying the figurative death of the “Old South”, Williams effectively shows how the notion of an old, traditional lifestyle can quickly become useless in America’s ever-changing cultural landscape.…

It's a Monday as our protagonist walks over and looks inside her mailbox. She doesn't have much reason to expect a letter so soon, but as she looks inside her mail box, she finds herself chewing on her own thoughts, as a small, square card, makes itself visible. Inside the small card is an invitation regarding our characters invite to an exhibition of drawings at a private gallery. The name of the artist paints a faint picture for her, one that leaves her unsure if she's ever seen his work or not before. She questions the thought of what kind of art she'll be viewing, but what really matters, was that she had been invited. Although pleased with the invitation, she doesn't let it get past her that she probably wasn't specifically chosen, which was made evident through the presentation of the invitation. The invitation contains a typed address with a spelling error, sadly being in her name. She knows that somewhere, no doubt, she'd turned up on a mailing list and that was where it ended. She plans to wear a certain printed velvet skirt she has and to toss on a black turtle neck sweater to go with it. She feels certain that there's a good chance no one will even speak to her while she's there, but it would definitely be better than spending her Saturday evening at home, reading a book while loneliness overwhelms her drop by drop.…
