Introduction

The telecommunication services in Bahrain last few years started to be in a strong competition between the telecommunication companies. The competition among these three companies is started to raise recent years in the form of providing services to their customer , developing their network signals and other types of services to the customer . We can say that there are a three key-rivals companies which compete strongly to gain more and more market shares as follows:

1- Bahrain telecommunication company " Batelco "

2- Zain

3- Viva

Intensified competition among local telecommunications companies in the recent past, ranging from banners and slogans, to advertising and propaganda, to the price, which is the most important point for consumers. Since the entry of Viva to the market and the launch of its operations on march 2010 officially began the company of communications Batelco and Zain to implement promotional plans to counter the new competition and maintain its share of subscribers.

We can know more details about the three key-rivals as follows :

1- Bahrain telecommunication company " batelco ":

Vision : To enrich our customers’ lifestyle and enable businesses to excel

Mission : We deliver an enhanced customer experience through competitive

communications’ solutions and people excellence.

Bahrain telecommunication company is the main telecommunications company of Bahrain. The company is headquartered in Bahrain and is listed on the Bahrain Stock Exchange. Batelco is the oldest telecommunication company in Bahrain as they started their operation in the year 1981. Batelco is counted as the government company or at least the company which is closest to the government of Bahrain from other telecommunication companies. Batelco's major shareholders include the Government of Bahrain, financial and commercial organizations, and private Bahraini and GCC investors. Since founded in 1981, Batelco is the largest telecommunications company in Bahrain. They provide several services, including integrated Services for voice and data over fixed and wireless networks and Batelco's Shareholders include the company holding the property and the citizens of Bahrain by 43.3 percent and 21.2 percent respectively.

2- Zain bh

Zain bh is a subsidiary company to Kuwaiti telecommunication company "zain group" which is founded in Kuwait in the year 1983. Zain started operations in the Kingdom in December 2003 as MTC-Vodafone. Since its historic introduction of 3.5G, WIMAX and ‘One Network’, Zain has tapped into a rich seam of telecommunication records, placing itself on the global telecoms map. Zain Bahrain entered the telecommunications market in Bahrain in 2003 as the first intervention after the liberation of the telecom sector in the Kingdom and break the monopoly of Batelco. Today, Zain Bahrain offers mobile services to the global level by broadband services, Internet and home phone.

The operation has experienced intense competition over the course of the past year, as a result of the launch of the 3rd operator in March 2010. This is reflected in Zain Bahrain’s performance in the first half of 2011, and the decrease in customer base from the previous year.
