Straight Mind Vs Crooked Mind Analysis
Are people horrible? Would you say they are really great? I think for the most part we are a mix. We are a combo of good and bad. We all have our bad days and bad habits but we also have good in us. This story challenges the idea of the “straight mind” and the “crooked mind” and how they balance. I believe we balance both of these equally. The story goes that there are two brothers. There is the right handed twin who represents the good or the straight mind. Then, there is the left handed brother who represents the bad or the crooked mind. The book illustrates the balance the brothers create not only in nature but in people. The brothers often battle trying to out do the other until it becomes a true dual. They duel for days till they understand

I think that evil is dominant in this story. The good in the society is the allies helping to fight off the Nazis and help make Germany a nice place once again. The good in the hiders is Mr. Frank who is kind hearted and courageous. He was also hopeful. Now as for the evil the Nazis pretty much took control of Germany and did what they felt needed to be done which was killing innocent Jews, and as for in the house there aren't really any evil people but Mr. Dussel did something pretty mean which was tells Peter that his cat is probably dead. Also Mr. Van Daam did something evil which was steal bread even though he knew there was barely enough food to go around. Anne is a mixture of good and evil. For example, in the text she takes arguments to far and is constantly disrespectful but as the story rages on she becomes more polite and nice. Anne said everybody is good at heart, and i agree with her 99.99 percent. The .01 percent is because people do things and have to remorse or don't care, and sometimes they are glad about what they did.…

In The Strange Case of Dr. Jeckyll and Mr. Hyde by Robert Louis Stevenson and “Coraline” by Neil Gaiman, both represent how doubles are reflections of characters inner desires. Double’s are objects or people who contain attributes a person represses, and does not have. But put the two objects or characters together they are equivalent to a human. However, the acts the doubles do in both novels are hidden by the characters to protect their identity. Both protagonists from both narratives enjoy their acts of rebellion their double does or they do in their double world. However, when a protagonist indulges in their double live there will be consequences.…

There are many theories that elaborate on how different Indian tribes came to be in America. A problem for historians concerning Indian culture is they didn't record history in the way that other societies did. Often history was passed on by word of mouth and it wasn't until the arrival of the English, Spanish or French that a more formal account was taken down. It is estimated that up to 50 million people were already living in the Americas for 15 century AD and possibly 10 million in what would later become the United States. (history) The Berring Straight theory I believe is a simple explanation to contribute towards the origin of the numerous tribes in the region.…

Many people hold destructive opinions without considering their full implications. Flannery O'Connor's "Good Country People" uses characterization, symbolism, and irony to warn people with a nihilistic philosophy of life that their beliefs will inevitably lead to ruin. In this story a young atheist woman is destroyed when she is brought face-to-face with the evil personification of her worldview.…

How does one characterize good and evil? Throughout time, people have asked this question and only received opinions based on references from religious works, such as The Holy Bible. “A good man out of the good treasure of the heart bringeth forth good things: and an evil man out of the evil treasure bringeth forth evil things” (Matthew 12:34). In other words, a good man does good things, and an evil man does evil things. Using characterization, O’Connor personifies the grandmother as good and The Misfit as evil. Although there are grey areas, readers are able to discern which character is which. The grandmother is characterized as a good person and a lady that does the right thing according to the standards of her time. She seems to treat goodness mostly as a function of being decent, having good manners, and coming from a family of "good blood” (O’Connor 454). Before leaving for vacation, the grandmother donned her finest apparel, so she would look like a lady, or, in her eyes, a good person (O’Connor 446). The grandmother’s portrayal of good makes her flawed, just like every other human being, which draws in the reader by making the character relatable. Everyone has their own flaws. The Misfit is used as a foil character to the grandmother, helping to disclose “by contrast [her] distinctive qualifications” (“Character” 127). By characterizing The Misfit as a…

First, life’s battle with good versus evil, the grandmother has a blurred version of what “good” really is and what it is not. The grandmother first uses “good” with Red Sammy. “[Sammy] asks her why he let two strangers charge their gasoline [because] he got swindled and the grandmother says because he’s a good man” (SparkNotes Editors). “ In this case, her definition of good seems to include gullibility, poor judgment, and blind faith, none of which are inherently good” (SparkNotes Editors). Sammy not having good business sense and getting ripped off leads the grandmother to think he is a good man due to pity. Sammy could have been a cheat and a liar, but just because he got swindled, the grandmother calls him a good man. The next label of good she applies to the Misfit, a criminal that escaped. “ [She] wouldn’t take [her] children in any direction with a criminal like that aloose. . .(O’Connor 575). The Misfit being that bad the grandmother still calls him good. “The grandmother’s application of the label ‘good man’ reveals that ‘good’ doesn’t imply ‘moral’ or ‘kind’”(SparkNotes Editors). Good for the grandmother is if his values align with hers, if not then that person cannot be good. In life’s battle with what good really is people need to judge based on deeds, not on if they are like others.…

Many people struggle with the idea of what it means to be a “good” person and what it means to be a “bad” person. The human quest to be good drives virtually everything we do but sometimes in the end may not amount to enough. We all want to be good, but it 's not easy. If you ask an evil person and a good person the same question, "Are you a good person?" Who do you think is more likely to say yes, the good person or the evil person? Everyone has their own opinion about certain issues, and they depend on their values, judgment, and beliefs to see them through their difficulties. Flannery O’Connor, an American writer, was quoted as saying "I see from the standpoint of Christian orthodoxy. This means the meaning of life is centered in our Redemption by Christ and that what I see in the world I see in relation to that" (Contemporary Authors 402). In the short story "A Good Man is Hard to Find," Flannery O’ Connor illustrates her argument of good and evil through a grandmother who struggles with her own insincere sense of goodness, and the Misfit who represents evil. Only true goodness illuminates when in the face of something bad. In the story a character who views herself as good comes to realize that this goodness that she believes she has cannot protect against the works of evil.…

I agree that good and evil are one in the same, but I do not feel that the grandmother had a moment of grace, because she was murdered. She did learn to accept the misfit as though it was one of her children by offering him clothing, but this didn’t save her life or her families lives. The story to me shows that evil triumphs over good, because everyone was murdered except for the misfit, a moment of realization is not a win if it’s also the ending of your life. There’s a reason why criminals choose to kill but they are not always victims as the article states. The victims of the story were the grandmother and her family not the misfit.…

Do you want to be the “Hero” or a “Villain?” As a hero you could look back at your life and be proud of the righteous choices you’ve made. Both Buddha's attitude of mind and his Theravada teachings, specify that each of us is capable of achieving Nirvana in this lifetime, if one follows the correct Path. Claimed by the Buddha, Nirvana means the highest state one can attain. It is the complete cessation of that very 'thirst' (fa!Jhii), giving it up, renouncing it, emancipation from it, detachment from it (Rahula36). In addition, comparisons between the “Buddhist Attitude of Mind”, with the Theravada teachings of the Buddha are: Tolerance, minimization of metaphysics, key virtue being wisdom, and the main idea is of men being supreme.…
