Malaysia have a government pre-university provide for the local students which is Sijil Tinggi Persekolahan Malaysia (STPM) examination. It was known as the Higher School Certificate (HSC) in the past. Since 1982, the STPM is established and operate by Malaysian Examination Council, which also runs the Malaysian University English Test (MUET) since 1999. STPM is unlike with UPSR, PMR and SPM, which are all set and examined by the Malaysian Examinations Syndicate. However, those are all under the guidance of Ministry of Education. At the previous STPM system, known as the terminal system which similar to PMR and SPM, evaluate STPM candidates in one major STPM, examination at the final of the one and a half year of Form six study. Finally, after 29 years of terminal system since STPM inception in 1982, STPM is set to undergo a massive facelift from year 2010 onwards. To enhance the form 6 education programme in accordance with the Education Transformation Programme and as one of the approaches to fulfill the National Key Economic Area (NKEA), the new modular system will replace the terminal system for STPM. Besides that, examination results under the new STPM assessment system will be monitored by a representative from Cambridge Assessment to maintain standards and quality. The new STPM examination system enables students to score better because of the system of the examination the assessment and the new ruling. The first batches that use the semester system replacing the terminal system are the candidates who sat for the STPM last year. According to the information provided by the Sun Daily, with 497 of candidates who sat for the STPM last year scoring straight A’s in all subjects under the new format assessment did much better compared with 450 in previous year. As a result by interview some of the STPM makes the examination easier to score.

In a totalitarian society, the ruling class must be able to control their people by any means, so they can remain in power, and bring order to the lives of the citizenry. By controlling their citizens, the government can attain as much labor and resources as needed without revolt or mutiny. Ruthless rulers can relax and command their subjects to meet their wishes while the populace works rigorously and industriously to please them. This authority is portrayed in the novels Animal Farm and Anthem by George Orwell, and Ayn Rand, respectively. In Animal Farm, Napoleon, the self-appointed leader, controls the other animals to do his bidding while living a life of comfort and luxury. The World Council, the government in Anthem, takes authority further by indoctrinating their citizens into working tirelessly with whatever they choose for them and without question. Equality 7-2521 is against this policy, and rebels against them so he can be innovative and different. In both stories, the rulers ensure that they are in complete power by using fear, ignorance, and guilt. This essay will explain these points by using the point-by-point method.…

Sie Yii: Good morning Madam Jasmine and all my fellow friends. As the first (speaker/presenter), I will be talking on the background of today’s topic, which is “ABOLITION OF PPSMI, NOT A SMART MOVE”. First of all, what is PPSMI? *pause, wait for response. If no one responds, move on.* PPSMI stands for Pengajaran dan Pembelajaran Sains dan Matematik dalam Bahasa Inggeris, or the teaching and learning of Science and Mathematics in English. It was first introduced in 2003 by then-Prime Minister, Tun Mahathir bin Mohammad. This policy has been the subject of debate among academics, politicians and the public alike. According to the Malaysian Ministry of Education, the policy would be run in stages, starting with the 2003 school session, pioneered by the all students of Year 1 in primary education level, and Form 1 of the secondary education level. PPSMI was then fully implemented to all secondary students in 2007, and to all primary students in 2008. The policy decision to implement PPSMI was made to ensure students’ mastery in science and mathematics in view of the fact that most of the sources are available in the English language. Indirectly, it is also hoped that the implementation of PPSMI would contribute to the enhancing of students’ command of the language. By then, Tun Dr. Mahathir was in the opinion that Malaysia's progress is declining in the age of globalization, and he had hoped that this policy gives a competitive edge to the nation, following the footsteps of Singapore and India which are moving forward because of their utilization of the English language. However, the policy was reversed in 2012 through an announcement made my Deputy Prime Minister, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin. Now, what would replace PPSMI? The answer is MBMMBI. “To uphold Bahasa Malaysia and to Strengthen the English Language. My colleague will continue on this section. Thank you.…

National level public examinations such as the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) and Sijil Pelajaran Tinggi Malaysia (STPM) have always generated a lot of interest among the general public as they are essential for entrance into universities and also to enter into the work market. In the recent few years, attention has been drawn to the phenomenon of students getting up to 20 As in the SPM examinations and this has been a source of contention especially with regards to scholarship allocation and university placements. The government then has been mulling a decision to set a limit on the maximum number of subjects a candidate may sit for as a way to simplify the selection process into tertiary studies. The writer of this article, Dr. I. Lourdesamy of the Pacific Institute Technology in Petaling Jaya offers his views on this development and the article is aptly titled “SPM Subjects: Let students make the choice.” Basically, the writer is of the opinion that setting a cap on the number of subjects a student may sit for does not address the real issue of suitable selection criteria into tertiary education, and he goes on to suggest how we may best tackle the issue by giving his recommendations as well as what he feels the goal of education should be.…
