What are the positive aspects of stereotypes, if any?

* I don't think there are too many positive effects of stereotypes. Say you believe that all Southern Americans are hospitable, you may want to visit down south so that can be positive because you will increase tourism to the area, however not all Southern Americans are that way and you may put yourself into a bad situation thinking so. There can be positive and negative spin put on a lot of things.

What are the negative aspects of stereotypes?

* There are many negative aspects of stereotypes. Mostly, however, stereotypes encourage discrimination by making large generalizations about a group of people. Large generalizations like this are offensive as it ties one group of people to this identity and they are not allowed to construct their own individual identity. *
