Statement Of Purpose In Medical Education
STATEMENT OF PURPOSE

My love of biology started in high school. We had young and enthusiastic teachers, who took us on field trips and visits. They made sure we did as much practical work as was feasible and demonstrated experiments that we could do ourselves. They also encouraged us to read. I remember the impact of the reading “The Big Bang Theory” had on me. Since, then I made up my mind to join medical stream as my future educational option.
I was born and brought up in Amritsar, which is one of the international tourist’s hub and the holy city of Sikhs. I finished my schooling from D.A.V. Senior Secondary school, Amritsar, one of the elite schools in Punjab accredited to Punjab School Education

So I want to study abroad. Worthy to note, Indian Medical Education System has various flaws in it like around 79,000 MBBS students appeared for AIPGEE (All India Post Graduate Medical Entrance Examination) the previous year. And, the total number of seats available in one of the toughest national level medical exams held for MBBS is about 6200.Furthermore, the fundamental exam pattern has remained the same-stressing on learning techniques and memorizing, while the humanitarian approach is not taken into account. As a result, the tests are more for memorizing skills rather than knowledge. The problem is further worsened by backdated syllabus and teaching style, Lack of skilled teachers, Disparity in infrastructure across different states, Lack of social accountability and Corruption in medical education …show more content…
Before choosing Canada I also searched for medical education available in Singapore, Australia, New Zealand, America and Europe. I preferred Canada over these options due to following reasons:
First, there are already around 47,000 Indian doctors practicing in the US and around 25,000 in the UK and my intention is just to study and then practice my profession in India. For which Canada is the best. Secondly, there are 10,500 medical students out of which 6900 are from overseas which is more than any country across the world. Third, Canadian schools are spotless and are transparent as they do not indulge in unscrupulous activities. Fourth, the visa policy is smooth and less complex for Canada than for other countries.
Socially, the country has safe and diverse cultural environment, with low crime rates and zero poverty. Environmentally, the environment of the country is neat and clean and there is no pollution and dust seen. In addition to it, the weather is also suitable for me as I am used to extreme and chilly winters of Punjab.

The Canadian health care system, although flawed, is privilege. There are only a number of countries that has a similar healthcare system where basic health care needs are covered by the government (i.e. France, Denmark, Germany, UK, etc.), the rest have a privatized health care system where an individual would have to pay for each visit and procedure depending on the amount their insurance covers (i.e. USA, Philippines, etc.).…

Yes, I agree with the United Nations about their decision to rank Canada as one of the best countries to live in. Canada is a wonderful place to live thanks to how diverse it is. This country is filled with people from different cultures and backgrounds, which is why it is sometimes called a ‘ cultural mosaic’. Being a cultural mosaic means that we allow every culture to keep their identity instead of telling them to conform to a certain way of life. The people…

My name is Tammy and I have been Registered Nurse for nearly 20 years now. I have worked in a variety of settings and have carried many titles. For the past 10 years or so, I have primarily been a hemodialysis nurse and I’ve embraced the love I have for this specialty. I recently entered the RN to BSN program at The Ohio State University. I am learning about Evidence Based Practice, or EBP for short, which is a fairly new concept for me. I work in a relatively small environment for an extremely large healthcare company. I work in an outpatient hemodialysis clinic where we provide approximately 250 hemodialysis treatments per week to about 100 patients. My company is an international company with nearly 3,000 clinics in the US and abroad serving…

The Canadian healthcare system has unique different healthcare systems across the provinces with different health coverage; Canada has distinct health systems for each of the provinces and territories. The Canada Health Act shows and underlines the basic needs for health care to be universal and accessible for physicians and hospital health services across the territories in Canada. The healthcare systems, how they are operated and run is determined by the province alone which means they are run on a provincial level and not federal, this results in the province that determines what is covered and how within the health care system. Also the federal government role in the healthcare system is determining the healthcare coverage and benefits for Aboriginal people, and the veteran healthcare, this is…

To make a living anywhere in the world you need to make money, to make money you need to attain a job, and the best job opportunity's come to those who are highly educated. Canada is great because of the freedom we receive. Canada has a Constitution Act that was created in the year 1982 that states the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms, meaning all Canadian's have equal rights and freedoms. Health Care makes Canada distinct from many other countries, every citizen has free health care that is delivered through a publicly funded care system. A health card is given to all Canadian’s by the Provincial Ministry of Health and everyone receives the same level of care. Canadians are proud of the land because it's strong, bold and beautiful; Canada accepts multiculturalism for what it is no matter on colour, sexual preference or religion. The people are kind, generous and helpful, giving to those in need through charity, is just one way of giving back Canadian’s do on a regular basis. I believe being Canadian is great because we receive free health care, free primary and secondary education, we're peacekeepers, there's always opportunity, and the freedoms and rights.…

As the aging population continue to grow so will health spending and the cost for long term care and the cost of medication. Some of the U.S. Americans will not be able to afford the health care insurance or some of U.S. Americans will not have insurance. Waking up in the middle of the night coughing and gasping for air occurred on a regular basis for me as a child. I slept with an inhaler and a nebulizer next to my bed in the event of the next attack. My asthma attacks were frightening for my parents and especially for me as I felt as if I was on the verge of death whenever I suddenly could not breathe. Although I was always in and out of emergency rooms and doctor visits at a young age, having tried everything from nebulizer treatments to bronchodilators, I was always comforted by the doctors and nurses who always took the time to explain and alleviate any concerns and anxiety I had. Seeing their devotion to their profession and for patient care has motivated me to pursue graduate study in the field of nursing to invest my future to coordinate and implement quality healthcare for others.…

Democracy gives citizens the right to create decisions that affect them, including the right to vote for a member of each level of the government. Moreover, democracy is prominently based on equality, public will and the public opinion (Gupta). I am proud that Canadians have a democratic system of government since the fundamental political power is settled within the citizens. Furthermore, it is more efficient, stable and firm to have this system of government since the representatives are obligated to serve the people and their needs (Gupta). Last but not least, the healthcare system is another feature that makes me proud of being a Canadian. The majority of citizens love Canada’s healthcare system (Nader). Additionally Canada holds the 30th position for the country with the most outstanding health care ("World Health…"). Canada has 15 different healthcare systems to ensure its people are treated to be healthy and strong (Nader). Also, its systems provide healthcare coverage for Canadian citizens for their entire life. From the minute, an individual is born in Canada he/she is covered for health care (Nader). Canada’s healthcare systems put the people first not the profits. To conclude, I ranked Canada’s health care, democratic system of government and multiculturalism really high because they have become symbols that have defined Canada and as a Canadian, I am proud to have these symbols represent such a strong and native…

India being one the diverse countries of the world with a lot of different cultures all mixed up living as one. It is the seventh-largest country by geographical area, and the second-most populous country with over 1.2 billion people, and also the most populous democracy in the world. As of 2011, with an estimated population of 1.21 billion, India is the world 's second most populated country after China. The Indian history goes way back to the time when the Englishmen’s ruled over India and once called it “The Golden Sparrow” and that saying has emerged to be true as India, now as we see it, has become a developed nation from a developing nation. With a total of 28 states and 7 union territories, India has changed a lot cultural-wise as well as architectural-wise. All these states played their own crucial role in building up India’s reputation to this high level. A lot of changes could be seen in India which were not to be seen as of 20 years from now. Out of all these states, I believe that Punjab has played, if not more but equally, important role in the development. Since Punjab is a big state so specifically talking I would say Jalandhar city, after Chandigarh, has been one of the main cities to put an impact on the Indian development. As of 2011 census, Punjab has a total population of 27,704,236…
