Statement Of Purpose: Coast Guard Career
My unwavering interest pursuing a Coast Guard Career was initially sparked in 2010 when I toured the USNS Comfort. After listening to my father and the crew’s inspiring stories regarding their humanitarian mission in Haiti, I was intrigued with (at/by) the idea of pursuing a military career. In 2013, I visited the Coast Guard Air Station in Traverse City, Michigan where I conversed with officers and enlisted staff who (That/which) oriented me to the Coast Guard’s highly unique and diverse missions. Since these life-defining milestones, I have had a laser focus to become a Coast Guard officer and compete for an Academy appointment.

I seek an Academy appointment because first and foremost, (first) I desire to serve my country. I am confident I have the requisite skills and ingrained devotion to duty to successfully accomplish any Coast Guard mission. To accomplish this, I enrolled in a multitude of science and mathematics classes. I researched multiple websites searching for answers to strengthen my weaknesses, and sought out tutoring from my instructors to ensure I understood difficult concepts. To complement my academic goals, I set aside time each day this past summer to improve my physical fitness. This included going to the YMCA at 0530 to work on my strength training, competitively swimming for two hours, and running 3-5 miles every day. To compliment my physical fitness routine, I set a goal to increase my SAT scores to be more competitive. I continue to train academically, physically, and mentally to build a strong foundation in which I will be well-prepared for the Academy’s SWAB summer and academically challenging
