Statement Of Purpose: Casa Magdalena Mora

Being admitted to the University of California, Berkeley was a shock to my family. Nevertheless, everyone was full of joy and support. My mother and father offered immediate advice for my well-being. Yet, I was full of uncertainty. Attending UC Berkeley was not within my plans. Being family oriented, I could not imagine leaving home. I could not picture myself 200 miles away from my family. Living in a city where the school campus itself is bigger than my town was inconceivable. However, becoming aware of the theme program Casa Magdalena Mora allowed me to consider UC Berkeley. Living in the theme program Casa Magdalena Mora will allow me to continue being family oriented. I will like to become part of a small community where people rely on each other. Forming a family that I am able to identify with is crucial to my success. Therefore, I would like to live in “Casa Mora.” Moreover, living in “Casa Mora” will allow me to meet people with a similar background. At UC Berkeley, I would have the best of both worlds. During the day I will be able to meet a diverse amount of individuals. Knowing that I have a “Familia” when returning home during the night. Feeling comfortable with peers that have similar ethnic backgrounds will contribute to my overall success at “Cal.” Living in “Casa Mora” with a familia will create a safe environment. Which will lead to my success in education. Succeeding in my education will allow me to grow as a person. Growing as a person will derive from my extracurricular activities at “Cal.” Doing extracurriculars will allow me to engage with new folks and develop socially.
